Elm Street Suite B Lancaster, WI 53813 (608) 723-2135 Email – aolson@co.grant.wi.gov www.grantcountyfairwi.org AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING January 7, 2020 Chula Vista Resorts Wisconsin Dells, WI Tuesday, January 7 The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Roger Guthrie, in addition to Chairperson Guthrie were John Patcle, Mark Stead, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney, Pat Schroeder, and Amy Olson. The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, UW-Extension Office, Youth & Ag Center, and media by Amy Olson. Motioned by John Patcle, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Committee members and I attended workshops yesterday and today. We also walked through the trade show today and met with All Star Monster Trucks to discuss the possibility of coming to our fair Thursday night. After discussing our options on what kind of a performance they could do for the fair, a motion was made by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse to have All Star Monster Trucks at our 2020 fair for Thursday night. Motion carried. Amy will work out the details with them and bring a final contract back to the board. Roger, Bob, and Amy also met with Tower Sound in the trade show. This is our last year of our three year contract with them. Discussion on what events we already have in place and what we need to look for during the rest of convention. Amy received an email from Brandon Heller with ATV/UTV Garden Tractor Pullers. They would like to return to the fair this year. Motioned by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead to have the ATV/UTV Garden Tractor Pullers on Saturday night pulling alongside the local pull. Motion carried. Amy will be in contact with Brandon and bring a contract back to the board. Discussion on the tractor pulls at the fair. Tri-State is signed for Friday night and Amy will get in touch with Dan from Antique Tractor Pullers to see if they are interested in pulling that night too. Jeremy Reuter is planning to attend our board meeting in January to discuss Saturday night’s pull. Discussed having fireworks at the fair again and if so when is a good time. After further discussion the fireworks will be Thursday night after the monster truck show. We met with Badgerland Midways and expressed our concerns about long lines at the ticket booth and talked about the rides. They have purchased another booth in hopes that it will help. Mega passes and the carnival times will stay the same. Discussed our June fundraising event. We can have a tractor pull in June but it would have to be Friday, June 13th. Amy has talked to Jason Kleppe with SWWI Area Pullers and he is interested in pulling for that event. We also discussed having a demo derby/poker run. Amy will contact Jason to get a price for putting on a tractor pull and Danny Bishop to get a price to put on demo derby. Gary and Bob will talk to the ATV Alliance as they are having a meeting this Wednesday night. The committee and I will discuss this more at our January meeting. Tomorrow there are more workshops to attend along with our WAF Business Meeting and District Meeting. Roger and I will be staying for the Fairest of the Fair Banquet that evening.
