HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 Minutes February 15 2021AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, February 15, 2021 9:00 a.m. The February 15 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, John Patcle, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, Jeff Bahl and Andrea Bahl. Present by Zoom were Amy Olson, Bob Keeney, Paul Ohlrogge, James Schneider, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Bev Doll, Donna Peterson and Joe Bonnell. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve minutes of the meetings held January 18 and January 26, 2021. Motion carried. Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Educator reports were given by James Schneider, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Bev Doll, Donna Peterson and Joe Bonnell. Paul Ohlrogge gave the Area Extension Director update. Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. General maintenance continues. Extension Office restrooms have been renovated with new sinks, faucets, countertop and painted. The stalls were removed. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business. Amy is working on sending letters to judges. Sponsorship letters and trophy sponsor letters have been sent. Amy is in discussion with Carrie Eastlick regarding credit card usage for the fair office and grandstand area. Adequate wifi is needed. Jeff and Andrea Bahl were present to discuss the truck/tractor pull Full Throttle Events would like to hold on the fairgrounds on July 9. They will prep the track on Thursday, hold the event on Friday, and cleanup on Saturday. The cost will be $2,000 for use of fairground facilities. The event should not be associate with the Grant County Fair due to donation confusion. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to send a contract to Jeff Bahl for the July 9 truck and tractor pull giving permission for Amy to sign the contract. Half of $2,000 will need to paid with the signing of the contract with the remainder to pa id within 45 days. Motion carried. Amy will send out information to recruit for Junior Fairest of the Fair. Amy informed the committee the Lodi Agriculture Fair has been moved to September 2 in 2021. Amy’s evaluation needs to be done at the March 15 committee meeting. The steer identification deadline of January 8, 2021, was discussed. No late id’s will be accepted. Contracts were presented for Bungart Motorsports, Kindschi Pedal Pullers, ATV & Garden Tractor Pulling, for the Grant County Fair; Hard Hit Promotions for the June 26 event, and Party Company for the August 6 movie night. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to sign all contracts. Motion carried. A Livestock Auction Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, February 25. Discussion was held on reopening facilities on the fairgrounds for public use. Groups using the Youth & Agriculture Center will be informed they share restrooms. There does not need to be a waiting period of time between uses by different groups. It was decided that in future years the Livestock Facility will not be used for events until March 15. The next Wisconsin Association of Fairs Talk It Out Tuesday will be February 16. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mark Stead, to pay livestock claims in the amount of $465 to the Grant County Humane Society. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Gary Northouse, to adjourn.
