EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING

8:30 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by Committee Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in addition to
Schroeder were Roger Guthrie, John Patcle, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney,
Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Charisse Orth, Amanda Cauffman, Jack Johnson, Deb Reukauf,
Steve Braun, Vince Heiman, Dennis Burr, Travis Sewilo, Eugene Jensen, Chuck Plumlee. Joe
Krantz joined by phone. Mark Stead was excused from the meeting.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth &
Agriculture Center and media by Amy Olson.
Motion by John Patcle, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
The carnival report was given by Vince Heiman.
Jack Johnson, Deb Reukauf and Steve Braun gave their reports.
There were no judging issues. The grand champion of the market goat show was blood tested by
the veterinarian, Sally Harper, as it was one of the two species drawn for random testing. An
exhibitor brought three swine onto the fairgrounds but had only had two entered into the fair.
Therefore, according to fair book rules, the extra pig will go to market and the proceeds will go
to the Grant County Fair. Amanda explained to the committee Weber’s Processing Plant waiting
list regarding swine going to their locker plant.
Dennis Burr was present to ask for the fee to be waived for the Eckstein Exhibit Hall to have a
law enforcement appreciation day on September 11. It will be a nonprofit event. Motion by Mike
Lieurance, seconded by Gary Northouse, to waive the fee for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall on
September 11 for the appreciation day. Motion carried.
Travis Sewilo, Eugene Jensen and Chuck Plumlee were present to discuss logistics for the
Monster Truck Show. Joe Krantz is providing vehicles for jumps.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to pay livestock claims in the amount of
$930 to the Grant County Humane Society. The County Board approved the claims at the
August 17 meeting, contingent upon this committee’s approval. Motion carried.
The proposed 2022 Extension budget was reviewed and discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie,
seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve and pass on the budget as presented. Motion carried.
The proposed 2022 Youth & Ag Center budget was reviewed and discussed. Motion by Gary
Northouse, seconded by John Patcle, to approve and pass on the budget as presented. Motion
carried.
The proposed 2022 Fair budget was reviewed and discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded
by John Patcle, to approve and pass on the budget as presented. Consideration should be taken to
combine the Extension, Youth & Agriculture Center, and Fair budget into one budget. Motion
carried.
Recessed until 8:30 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021.
