HomeMy WebLinkAbout11 Minutes November 15 2021AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/ FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, November 15, 2021 9:00 a.m. The November 15 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, John Patcle, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, Lynn Perkins, Amanda Cauffman and LeeAnn Bode. Present by Zoom were Chairman Schroeder, James Schneider, and Tonya White. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve minutes of the meeting held October 18, 2021, with correction. Motion carried. Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Educator reports were given. Lynn Perkins reported on Charisse, who is out on maternity leave. Jenny Dixon and Lynn are working together to make sure 4-H matters are taken care of, along with support from the Southern Program Manager. James Schneider, Amanda Cauffman and Bev Doll gave their reports. Lynn Perkins, AED Director, shared that the FoodWise Program Coordinator/Educator position has been reposted. Green County/Lafayette County Health and Wellbeing Educator intervie ws will be held. Iowa County Agriculture Educator, Gene Schriefer, resigned. Conversations will be held with Iowa County on what they want to do about filling the position and also with the Agriculture Educators’ team on what the needs are. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Winterization of buildings has been completed. Trees for the Fairgrounds are ready to be planted. The Fairgrounds received $1,000 through a grant from Alliant Energy toward the trees. Amy will rent a lift so maintenance staff can take down the ash trees. More vehicles were able to be put in the swine barn for winter storage this year. The leak by the swine barn has been repaired. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business. LeeAnn Bode was present to request a reduced rate for Potosi/Tennyson Lions Club using the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for a Hopefest 2022 fundraiser on May 21, 2022. The event will be open to all Grant County nonprofit organizations. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to waive the fee for use of the Eckstein Exhibit Hall for the first time event. If it is successful Grant County Fairgrounds will accept a donation. Motion carried. Discussion was held on grandstand events for the 2022 fair. More discussion will be held at the 2022 fair convention. A Livestock Auction Committee meeting was held October 20. The committee decided to hold the Grant County Junior Fair Livestock Auction in the same format as 2021. Pictures of sale animals will be done differently with Slack’s taking pictures during the Fair. Beef identification will start in December and go through mid-January. Belmont Sale Barn will host one weighin day. Sponsorship letters for the 2022 Fair will go out the week of November 15. Comments from the 2021 fair and fairbook changes were discussed. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse, to keep horse classes the same. Motion carried. The remaining fairbook changes were discussed. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve fairbook changes as presented. Motion carried. Amy took registration from the committee for the 2022 WAF Convention. Amy will attend the IAFE convention the end of November. Amy received information that government entities who support tourism can apply for the Tourism Capital Grant. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead, to have Amy submit an application from the Grant County Fairgrounds for the Tourism Capital Grant. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by John Patcle, to pay livestock claims in the amount of $155 to the Grant County Humane Society. Motion carried. The next regular scheduled meeting will be held January 24, 2021. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Mark Stead, to adjourn. Adjourned at 12:00 noon.
