HomeMy WebLinkAbout01 Minutes January 24 2022AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/ FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, January 24, 2022 9:00 a.m. The January 24 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Roger Guthrie, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, Charisse Orth and Bev Doll. Present by Zoom were Chairman Schroeder, Lynn Perkins, James Schneider, Amanda Cauffman, Joe Bonnell and Garry Pluemer. John Patcle was excused The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve minutes of the meetings held November 15, 2021, January 10, 11 and 12, 2022. Motion carried. Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. Bev Doll, Charisse Orth, Joe Bonnell and James Schneider gave their reports. Lynn Perkins, AED Director, shared that an offer has been accepted for the FoodWIse Program Coordinator/Educator position with a start date of January 31. Discussion was held on the staffing plan for Area 17 Agriculture Educators due to the resignation of the Iowa County Educator. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept the Regional Agriculture Educator Staffing Plan. Motion carried with one no vote. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Usual maintenance continues. Amy is still waiting to hear from Alliant Energy regarding the cost of a new pole that was damaged in a storm so it can be turned into insurance. The Eckstein Exhibit Hall was damaged near the overhead door by a vehicle when an organization using the facility was leaving after load out. Amy is getting a quote from Todd Wolf and working with the organization’s insurance company. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business. Grandstand and other events were discussed for the 2022 Fair. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Gary Northouse, to accept the contract from Lafayette County Speedway for Wednesday night. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to accept the contract with Badger State Tractor Pullers for Thursday night. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead, to accept the contract with Hooked on Motor Sports for Friday night. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Mike Lieurance to accept contracts with Grant County Local Pullers and Tri-State Truck and Tractor Pullers for Saturday night. Motion carried. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Gary Northouse, to accept the contract with Hard Hit Promotions for the Demo Derby and Night of Destruction on Sunday. Motion carried. There will be an increase in prices for carnival wristbands. Prices are as follows: daily - $25 (from $20), pre-sale mega wristbands $45 (from $40), mega wristbands during fair - $60 (from $55). Discussion was held on the contract with Badgerland Midway Carnivals. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to sign a two-year revolving contract. Motion carried. Steer identification has been finalized. Sheep and goat identification will be held in person on May 7 in the Livestock Facility from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Amy submitted a proposal to UW-Platteville marketing students for assistance with different marketing strategies to help reach millennials. There is no cost for the services. Town and Country Sanitation costs increased 6% for 2022. Amy recapped the Wisconsin Association of Fairs Convention. Amy will be getting a quote for automatic door openers on overhead doors in the Livestock Facility to present to the Livestock Trust. Discussion was held on hosting a fundraising event in June. It was agreed that no fundraising event will be held in 2022. The Fairest of the Fair Banquet will be held May 3. The Zone 4 meeting will be held March 20-22. Amy updated the committee on the Pay Anywhere credit card system. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to pay livestock claims in the amount of $310 to the Grant County Humane Society. Motion carried. The next regular scheduled meeting will be held February 21, 2022. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to adjourn.
