HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 Minutes February 21 2022AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/ FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, February 21, 2022 9:00 a.m. The February 21 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Chairman Schroeder, Mark Stead, Mike Lieurance, Gary Northouse, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, Lynn Perkins, James Schneider, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Bev Doll and Jessa Engelken. Present by Zoom were John Patcle, Amanda Degenhardt and Tonya White. Roger Guthrie was excused. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve the amended agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Mark Stead, to approve minutes of the meeting held January 24, 2022. Motion carried. Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented. James Schneider, Bev Doll, Amanda Cauffman and Charisse Orth gave their reports. Lynn Perkins, AED Director, introduced Jessa Engelken as the new FoodWIse Program Coordinator/Educator for Area 17 covering Grant, Iowa, Lafayette and Green Counties. Lynn reviewed the Regional Agriculture Educator Staffing Plan, which was approved by all four counties. One change was made, reducing the amount for travel from $1,000 to $500 for each county, due to counties not having it budgeted for the current year. Motion by Mark Stead, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Usual maintenance continues. Eckstein Exhibit Hall damage near the overhead door was repaired by Wolf Construction. Maintenance staff is stripping and waxing the Youth & Agriculture Center floors. Amy is working with maintenance staff on a plan for removing 15 remaining trees on the grounds. Amy is going to contact the 4-H Adult Leaders Executive Board asking them to sponsor an application for a grant through the Lancaster Community Fund to help with expenses for tree removal and planting new trees. Amy requested an amendment to the 2022 Youth & Agriculture phone budget to include cell phones that she inadvertently omitted. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mike Lieurance, to amend the 2022 Youth & Agriculture budget to include $1,170.00 (97.50/month). Motion carried. Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business. Grandstand and other events for the 2022 Fair were discussed. It was decided Friday night was a better night for fireworks due to pit area space. Amy presented options for VR Arcade and the committee decided on six stations for three days with split revenue. Ashley Barron and Dylan Gerard will perform in the entertainment tent Friday night. Discussion was held on having a movie night this summer in June or July. Fairbook changes for 2022 were discussed. Drug testing of market class champions will be done. There will be two judges for the goat shows with the dairy show starting at 5:00 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m. followed by the boar show. The IAFE Zone 4 meeting will be held March 20-22 in LaCrosse. Amy would like to attend the IAFE meeting in Phoenix, AZ, April 6-8, paying for her own expenses. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Mark Stead, to allow Amy to attend the IAFE meeting on work time. Motion carried. Grounds rental was discussed, allowing Amy to use her own discretion on individual requests. Amy gave the Fair Director’s report. Motion by Mike Lieurance, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve Fairgrounds vouchers. Motion carried. The next regular scheduled meeting will be held March 28, 2022.
