FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, May 23, 2022
9:00 a.m.
The May 23 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by
Zoom. The meeting was called to order by County Board Chairman Bob Keeney. Present in
person were Bob Keeney, Pat Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Joe Mumm, Kathy
Kopp, Porter Wagner, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Lynn Perkins, Shane Drinkwater, James
Schneider, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Joe Bonnell and Kris Wolf. Present by Zoom were
Garry Pluemer and Tonya White.
The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center,
Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Pat Schroeder, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve minutes of the meetings held
April 18 and May 3, 2022. Motion carried.
Reorganization of the committee with election of officers was held.
Gary Northouse nominated Pat Schroeder for chairman. Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by
Joe Mumm, to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Pat Schroeder as chairman of
the committee. Motion carried.
Pat Schroeder nominated Roger Guthrie for vice chairman. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded
by Porter Wagner, to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Roger Guthrie as vice
chairman of the committee. Motion carried.
Gary Northouse nominated Kathy Kopp for secretary. Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by
Gary Northouse, to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Kathy Kopp as secretary
of the committee. Motion carried.
Chairman Pat Schroeder presided over the rest of the meeting.
Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented.
Lynn Perkins, Area Extension Director, presented an overview of Extension and introduced the
Educators to give their reports. Reports were given by Amanda Cauffman, James Schneider,
Charisse Orth, and Joe Bonnell with hand written reports from Jessa Engelken and Josh Kamps.
Lynn presented Bev Doll’s report.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion
carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report.
A capacitor in an air conditioner in the Youth & Ag Center needed to be replaced. The John
Deere Gator came. The contactor in the milk bulk tank was replaced. A fitting in the milk house
sink was fixed due to a water leak. Amy got quotes for remote openers for the overhead doors in
the Livestock Facility. Alliant Energy replaced a pole on the fairgrounds damaged during a
storm. Amy will reach out to Reynolds Electric for a quote for an electrical box to be added to
the pole and see if the cost can be added to the insurance claim.
Kris Wolf asked the committee to waive the fee for use of the Youth & Agriculture Center for a
cancer benefit for Derek Knapp. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm, to waive the
fee for use of the Youth & Ag Center on July 30, 2022 for the benefit. Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business.
Committee meetings during the fair will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday and 10:00 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday.
Contracts were presented for Doc’s Ultimate Entertainment, Maple Street Day Care,
Bloomington Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, Gotta Dance Academy of Performance
Arts (2), TKO Band, Prairie Lights String Band. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Porter
Wagner, to accept contracts as presented. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on poultry and the plan is to still move forward for the 2022 Fair. Amy
completed the form for exhibitors to show good standing in their organization. An in person
YQCA training will be held June 6. Plans are finalized for Movie Night June 10. The IAFE
District 3 meeting is in Indianapolis November 27-30. Amy feels it would be beneficial for a
couple of committee members to attend and this would be a good year since the location may not
be this close in the future. Fair poster winner will be chosen after the meeting. The Grant County
4-H Adult Leaders are donating $5,000 toward the fairgrounds tree project. Discussion was held
on the DRA grant application on costs and plans for a pavilion on the fairgrounds.
Amy gave the Fair Director’s report.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve fairgrounds vouchers. Motion
carried.
Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to pay livestock claims in the amount of
$320 to the Grant County Humane Society. The County Board approved the claims at the May
meeting, contingent upon this committee’s approval. Motion carried
The next regular scheduled meeting will be held June 20, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to adjourn. Adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
