FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, June 20, 2022
9:00 a.m.
The June 20 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by
Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were
Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Joe Mumm, Kathy Kopp, Porter Wagner,
Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, James Schneider, Amanda
Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Bev Doll and Jessa Engelken. Present by Zoom was the Herald
Independent.
The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center,
Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media.
Motion by Joe Mumm, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to approve minutes of the meeting held
May 23, 2022. Motion carried.
Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented.
Educator updates were given by Bev Doll, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth, Jessa Engelken
and James Schneider. Jessa will be leaving FoodWIse as she accepted a position with UW
Health. James gave a presentation on Tourism Impact in Grant County and state wide.
Jessa Engelken presented the FoodWIse Program agreement letter for the federal fiscal year
2023 to the committee. Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by Roger Guthrie to approve and
sign the FoodWIse agreement letter. Motion carried.
The WEXA Association has been dissolved and a new UW-Madison, Division of Extension and
Education Steering Committee has been formed. The committee term runs from June 1, 2022-
May 31, 2024. Nominations are due by July 1, 2022. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by
Kathy Kopp to nominate Bob Keeney to represent Grant County on the Steering Committee.
Motion carried.
Discussion was held on replacing the current copier in the Extension Office with a new one.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Porter Wagner, to have Lori sign a lease for a Canon
copier/printer from Gordon Flesch. Motion carried.
Motion by Kathy Kopp, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion
carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report.
Hours for summer help is limited due to the availability of the applicants hired. Reynolds
Electric will add an electrical box to a pole damaged in a storm at a cost of $990. Tonya will see
if the insurance claim can be reopened. If the claim can’t be reopened the Fairgrounds will be
responsible for payment. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Joe Mumm, to have the
Fairgrounds pay for the electrical box if needed. Motion carried.
Amy Olson presented Fair and Fairgrounds Business.
Marketing materials are ready for distribution. Costs of tent rental has increased. The first draft
of the 2023 budget is due July 6. Locker plants are set for animals from the Livestock Auction.
Costs for supplies and food for the Grandstand Food Stand has increased, therefore, prices of
items sold will need to increase.
Contracts were presented for Sara Day Music, Food Stand - St. Clements and Bloomington
Sportsman Club, Beer Stand - Lancaster Sluggers and for a sled with Track Patrol. Motion by
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm, to accept contracts as presented. Motion carried.
The local tractor pull was discussed. Randy Oyen and Chad Wieland will run the pull.
The poultry ban in Wisconsin has been lifted. Poultry ID for the Grant County Fair is scheduled
for July 7.
The DRA Grant is open for applications starting June 20. Amy will now know what kind of
information is needed. The deadline is July 15. The superintendent/organization meeting for the
Grant County Fair is August 4, with the organization portion starting at 6:30 p.m. and
superintendent portion starting at 7:00 p.m. Crawford, Sauk, Richland, Iowa, Lafayette and Grant
County Fairs are working together for a joint giveaway. Discussion was held on rain insurance
for grandstand fair events.
Amy gave the Fair Director’s report.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve fairgrounds vouchers.
Motion carried.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Porter Wagner, to pay livestock claims in the amount of
$480 to the Grant County Humane Society. Motion carried
The next regular scheduled meeting will be held July 18, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.
Motion by Joe Mumm, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to adjourn. Adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
