HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 Minutes February 2 2023AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/ FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Thursday, February 2, 2023 11:00 a.m. The February 2 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Joe Mumm, Kathy Kopp, Porter Wagner, Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, and Chad Wieland. Present by Zoom was Chris Halverson. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Joe Mumm, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Chad Wieland was present to discuss tractor pull classes. At the beginning of the Thursday night pull Chad will run an invite only class starting at 6:00 p.m. Badger State will start at 7:00 p.m. Amy is still working with Herb from WGLR for Sunday entertainment in the Alternative Recycling Entertainment tent. Chris Halverson, CMJ Raceway, presented information on Supercross Motorcycle Racing for Friday night’s event. He will meet with Amy to view the race track and will put together a proposal to present to the committee. The Grant County Fair Code of Conduct was discussed. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to have the following in the addendum, A1 will stay and the first sentence of A4 will be part of A1, A2 will be kept and the rest eliminated. Motion carried. Due to increased costs, discussion was held on price adjustments for admission onto the grounds and the grandstand for 2023, and how it would impact fair goers. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm, to charge gate admission Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with gate fee being $5.00 daily, age 8 and under free, and season gate passes $10.00. Raise grandstand events from $12 to $15 with the exception of the demo derby, raising from $10 to $15. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to increase the All Event Pass advance sales from $30.00-$35.00 and regular price sales $35.00-$40.00. Motion carried. Motion by Kathy Kopp, seconded by Joe Mumm, to allow Amy to apply for a grant through Compeer Financial for up to $4,000. The grant would be used to improve the stage area in the Youth & Ag Center, an item that is on the master plan for improvements to the fairgrounds. Motion carried. There is a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 available at Runde Auto Group with 26,830 miles on it. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp to purchase the truck for $38,450 with funds budgeted for a truck purchase in 2023. Motion carried.
