FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, April 17, 2023
9:00 a.m.
The April 17 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by
Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were
Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Joe Mumm, Kathy Kopp, Porter Wagner,
Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Shane Drinkwater, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse
Orth and Bev Doll. Present by Zoom were Lynn Perkins, James Schneider, Tonya White, Garry
Pluemer and Denise Janssen. Michelle Noble attended by phone.
The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center,
Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media.
Motion by Joe Mumm, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve the amended agenda. Motion
carried.
Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve minutes of the meeting held
March 27, 2023. Motion carried.
Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented.
Educator updates were given by Bev Doll, Amanda Cauffman, Charisse Orth and James
Schneider. The FoodWIse report was shared with the committee.
Lynn Perkins gave the AED update. The Educators will plan to report to the full County Board at
their July meeting. Lynn asked Bob to share information from the WCA Steering Committee
Meeting. The Ag Educator Focus Group will present at the May committee meeting.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion
carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report.
The door closure for the Youth & Ag Center will be here May 3. The polycom system has been
installed in the South Room. A polycom system will also be installed in the Conference Room.
Maintenance turned water on during the warm weather but had to turn it back off due to cold
weather and freezing pipes. All winter storage will be off the grounds the end of April.
Grant County Fair and Fairgrounds Business
Scott Klein has trees ready for the wood carver. Discussion was held on what will be done with
the 12 finished pieces including the possibility of a silent auction and donations. Amy has rooms
reserved at the Sleep Inn for entertainment promoters who need overnight accommodations.
Promotion materials are being worked on.
Erik from the County Retention Committee inquired about county employees getting a free pass
into the fair for their family. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to have Amy
draft a one-day free pass invite to county employees for the committee to review at the next Ag
& Extension/Fair Committee Meeting. Motion carried.

Amy gave a spring District Meeting update.
A Livestock Trust Meeting is scheduled for April 26 to review the Fairground’s Master Plan.
Discussion was held on what this committee feels the priorities are.
The Fairest of the Fair and Junior Fairest of the Fair Banquet will be held May 4. There is one
Fairest applicant and 5 Junior Fairest applicants.
Denise Janssen asked to use the Crops Building at a reduced rate for a Mental Awareness Month
5K Run/Walk Fundraiser on May 20. Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to
allow the run/walk fundraiser for the Supporting Our Youth - Braden Bausch Fund and
Harmonie’s Hope at no cost. Motion carried.
Michelle Noble asked to use the Eckstein Exhibit Hall at a reduced rate for a Maple Street Day
Care Fundraiser on April 30. Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by Joe Mumm, to allow the
fundraiser at no cost. Motion carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Kathy Kopp to sign contracts with local bands. Motion
carried.
Amy gave the Fair Director’s report.
Motion by Porter Wagner, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve fairgrounds vouchers. Motion
carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm, to adjourn until May 15. Motion carried.
