FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
Monday, May 15, 2023
9:00 a.m.
The May 15 meeting was held in the South Room of the Youth & Agriculture Center and by
Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in person were
Chairman Schroeder, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Joe Mumm, Kathy Kopp, Porter Wagner,
Bob Keeney, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, Lynn Perkins, Shane Drinkwater, Amanda
Cauffman, Charisse Orth, James Schneider and Bev Doll. Present by Zoom were Jackie
McCarville, Josh Kamps and Tonya White.
The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center,
Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Joe Mumm, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Kathy Kopp, seconded by Porter Wagner, to approve minutes of the meeting held
April 17, 2023. Motion carried.
Grant County Extension and Youth & Agriculture Center business was presented.
Educator updates were given by Bev Doll, Charisse Orth and James Schneider. The FoodWIse
report was shared with the committee. Area 17 Regional Ag Educators Amanda Cauffman,
Jackie McCarville and Josh Kamps presented the needs assessment results from their focus
groups.
The committee took a break for pictures with representatives from the First Presbyterian Church
to recognize their donation of tables to the Youth & Agriculture Center.
Lynn Perkins gave the AED update. She shared a copy of the “grow” magazine from the UW-
Madison College of Ag & Life Sciences. She spoke of the County Partnership Guidance
Document shared with the committee.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Roger Guthrie, to approve Extension vouchers. Motion
carried.
Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Amy is
checking on new tires for the skid steer. A new electrical box is needed on a pole on the midway.
Summer LTE help will be starting after memorial day.
Grant County Fair and Fairgrounds Business
Changes to the Dairy Youth Fitting Contest were discussed. Motion by Joe Mumm, seconded by
Porter Wagner to accept the changes to the Youth Fitting Contest. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on a late horse ID. If the original deleted email containing the horse
identification with the date and time, meeting the requirements, and emailed before the deadline,
can be recovered by the sender and forwarded to the Extension Office, the identification will be
accepted.
Trophies will be ordered this month and grandstand food inventory taken. Sale of All Event
Passes and Mega Passes will start June 1 with the discounted prices.
Amy received three bids for the Dodge trucks with the highest bid being $3,500. Motion by
Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm to accept the highest bid to sell the Dodge truck. Motion
carried.
Amy presented a one-day pass she created for Grant County Employees to enter the fair at no
cost. Further discussion was held. It was decided to use the pass Amy created. This was a follow
up from the Retention Committee request for Grant County employees for the fair.
Discussion was held on moving the wall between the food stand and beer stand area in the
grandstand to allow better traffic flow for food stand purchases. It was decided to have
maintenance come up with a plan and move the wall.
DuCharmes will pour cement between July 10-21 east of the Livestock Barn and in the Open
Show Barn. The Novinskie Family made a donation to make the Open Show Barn handicap
accessible. Dates will depend on weather.
Discussion was held on improvements to the open dairy barn that will be done this fall.
Plans are finalized for Movie Night on June 9. Advertising will start two weeks beforehand.
Allegiant Oil is donating their popcorn machine and popcorn.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Gary Northouse, to sign contracts with Maple Street
Daycare for the food stand and with Bloomington Fire Department for the beer stand. Motion
carried.
The committee judged fair posters.
Poultry ID will be held June 28 and Rabbit ID on July 6.
Amy gave the Fair Director’s report.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve fairgrounds vouchers. Motion
carried.
Motion by Roger Guthrie, seconded by Joe Mumm, to pay livestock claims in the amount of
$960 to the Grant County Humane Society. Motion carried.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to adjourn until June 19. Motion carried.
