EDUCATION/FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING
UWEX Conference Room
Lancaster, WI
Saturday
August 19, 2023
10:00 a.m.
The meeting was called to order by the Committee Chairman Pat Schroeder. Present in addition to Schroeder was
Bob Keeney, Joe Mumm, Kathy Kopp, Roger Guthrie, Gary Northouse, Porter Wagner, Amy Olson, Steve Braun,
Travis Klaas, Deb Reukauf, Charisse Orth, Vince Heiman, and Kathi Mead.
The meeting notice was posted at the Administration Building, Extension Office and Youth & Ag Center and
media by Amy Olson.
Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Joe Mumm, to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Policing – Travis reported that we had one child missing but was quickly found. Deb had nothing to report
Carnival – The carnival requested more room over by the campers because they had more people coming and
turned in the financial statements from the previous day.
Judging – Amy reported that open class plant and soil science had to be re-judged as they did the judging by the
danish system.
Steve Braun – had a few calls, but nothing serious. They did take one individual off the track from the
motorcycle races as they were warming up, he got injured, but that individual was back racing later.
Entertainment – Schedule for the day was gone over and revenue so far. Amy told the board that this is the last
year for Joe Krantz to do the demo derby. He will continue the Night of Destruction for us though.
Outstanding fair person plaques to be presented today before the livestock auction. Joe, Bob, Roger, and Pat will
be there to present.
Gary is leaving early today. If Rob from the Sportsman Club needs anything he will contact Amy or Pat.
Kathy suggested we put a sign over the grandstand’s main entrance. Our new event attracted people from out of
state and they didn’t know where the main entrance was.
Discussion on emergencies and/or evacuating the grandstand if we had to. We have wheelchairs that park in the
“entrance tunnel” and in the first row instead of in the handicap section. Steve stated that as long as they are not
motorized they could be easily moved in an emergency. We are to watch so that individuals do not park a
motorized wheelchair in the first row.
Recess until 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 20
Respectfully submitted,
