GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

October 11, 2010
The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order October 11, 2010 at 10:25 a.m. by Chairman Bob
Scallon. The following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, John Patcle, Vincent Loeffelholz, Stephen Adrian, and Lester
Jantzen. Larry Wolf asked to be excused.
GUESTS: Sheriff Keith Govier, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Steve Braun, Emergency Government, Captain Anthony
Sheckles, Jeff Anderson, Information Technology Director, Sgt. Chad Breuer, Coroner Ron Sturmer, and Kelly Bird,
Recording Secretary.

Steve, second by Lester, verified that the meeting had been in compliance with the open-meeting law. John second by Pat
approved the agenda. Pat second by Lester approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s
Department were approved in motions by Steve and second by Lester. All above motions carried.
There is no Coroner’s Report this month.
In Sheriff’s Briefing, Keith stated that the jail count as of this morning was 45. There have been no fatalities since the last
meeting.
Sheriff Govier discussed the candidate comments about jail violations. There is an annual jail inspection conducted and is
satisfactory every year. Sheriff Govier brought copies of some of the previous inspections. Previous chairman Pat
Schroeder noted he had received copies of the jail inspection while he was chairman of the Law Enforcement Committee.
The inspection notes any improvements that the jail may need and the improvements are made by the Jail Administrator.
Board Chairman will send out letters in regard to these statements made. There has been no overcrowding in the jail this
year.
There is no Training to discuss.
Under Grants Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee of a AAA grant in the amount of $1,445.00 with no match for
pop cones. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by Lester to apply for the grant. Motion carried.
Sheriff Govier is working on a grant for a speed trailer through State Farm Insurance. H e will bring this back to the
meeting next month.
Under New Business, the Sheriff’s Department website was discussed. Information Technology Director Jeff Anderson
was present to talk about security issue s with the website. The website will be on a different network than the Sheriff’s
Department so that security will not be a concern. Captain Sheckles and Jeff will be handling the website. There will be no
cost to the county.
Chief Deputy Jack Johnson asked the committee to accept the $5,824.22 f rom CertainTeed for the bad shingles on the roof
at the Sheriff’s Department. Corporation Counsel JoAnn Millhouse reviewed the claim with satisfaction. Board Chairman
John Patcle signed to accept this amount.
Chief Deputy Johnson checked with two engineering companies about the replacement of the roof at the Sheriff’s
Department. It was questioned whether an engineering company was needed to oversee the project. It was motioned by
Lester and seconded by Vincent to bring this back next month after both bids have been received from the engineering
companies. Motion carried.
No Public Forum at this time.
Under Old Business, Sheriff Govier will discuss the Smoking Ordinance next month
It was motioned by John and seconded by Lester to adjourn to November 08, 2010 at 1:00 pm following The Grant County
Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
