HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaw ECminutes11-13-12GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 November 13, 2012 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order November 13, 2012, at 3:10 p.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFOECEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Patcle, John Beinborn, Lester Jantzen, and Larry Wolf. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Lester second by Larry approved the agenda. Pat second by John B. approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills were approved in motions by Pat and seconded by John P. Coroner’s bills were approved in motions by Vincent and seconded by John B. All above motions carried. No Coroner’s Report for this month. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman handed out the monthly activity report. There h as been an increase in car deer accidents. Dispatch calls and bookings in the jail have gone up in the last month. The jail is at its maximum capacity at this time with some inmates being housed at Vernon County Jail. Sheriff Dreckman would like to commend the Jail and Health Department staff for their hard work in dealing with a difficult inmate. There is no training to discuss at this time. There are no grants to discuss at this time. Under New Business, Sheriff Dreckman discussed the need to repair the Jail doors that are malfunctioning. There has been a quote received from SGTS,inc. for $210,000,00 and Sheriff Dreckman would like to start the project as soon as possible. Deputy Chad Breuer has resigned to take a position at Wyalusing State Park. The Grant County 911 Coordinator has also resigned and her last day will be November 23. The Deputy position will be filled internally. Interviews for the open Sergeant position are hopefully going to be scheduled next week. The Communications Supervisor position is posted until Friday. Under Old Business, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson wanted to verify that Public Proper ty was still setting aside money each year for the future purchase of a new generator. County Board Chairman Larry Wolf stated that has not been the case because of so many recent questions and issues about the current facility. This caused some confusion due to the need of a new generator being a concern for several years. The generator will not need to be moved from its location once it has been purchased. It was asked why a generator could not be purchased with the option of making payments instead of setting the money aside each year. Sheriff Dreckman updated the committee on the possible consolidation of the City Platteville Dispatch Center with Grant County. A study can be done for around $25,000.00. Sheriff Dreckman will get more quotes on the cost of studies and keep the co mmittee updated. Sheriff Dreckman will consult with Corporation Counsel about some of the different viewpoints that have been discussed as well as the responsibility of the Sheriff’s Department taking on Platteville Dispatch. Chief Deputy Jack Johnson notified the committee that the set up for the auction will be on January 11 with the auction being held on January 12. The Sheriff’s Department will be responsible for paying the utilities for the Eickstein Building. Chief Deputy Johnson will send out an email to departments asking for items they may need to sell. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by Lester to use the money made at the auction to build a second shelf in the evidence room and to reimburse victims of crimes. Motion carried. Chief Deputy Jack Johnson agreed to explain Crimestoppers at the County Board Meeting that is being held later today. Under Maintenance, Pete Janisch is keeping up well with job duties in the absence of Leroy Pickel. It was motioned by John B. and second by Lester to adjourn to December 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
