HomeMy WebLinkAboutlawinforminutes02-13-12GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster WI 53813 February 13, 2012 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order February 13, 2012 at 10:12 a.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Lester Jantzen, Vincent Loeffelholz, Pat Schroeder, John Patcle, Larry Wolf and Steve Adrian. GUESTS: Sheriff Keith Govier, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by L inda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Pat second by Larry approved the amended agenda as mailed. Vincent second by Lester approved the minutes from the previous meeting with one spelling correction. It was motioned by Steve and second by Vincent to pay the bills for the Sheriff’s Department. All above motions carried. There is no Coroner’s Report for this month. It was motioned by Vincent and second by John to pay the Coroner’s bills. Motion carried. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Govier introduced Deputy Jay Fitzgerald and the new K-9 A-Rod to the committee. Deputy Fitzgerald was also the K-9 handler for Najeh who has recently retired. A-Rod is 17 months old and came from Hungary. Deputy Fitzgerald said the dog is doing well and is ready to work all the time. Chuck Fralick from West Grant Lions Club was present to donate $1,000.00 to go towards the cost of the new K -9. It was decided that Mr. Fralick along with Deputy Fitzgerald and A -Rod will be present at the Full County Board Meeting on Tuesday for a formal presentation of the donation. The jail population is at 46 as of this morning. The count has been in the forties most of the month. Sheriff Govier passed out a sheet that listed jail bookings in surrounding counties. Most counties are down in bookings. There have been no fatalities this year. There is no training to discuss at this time. There are no Grants to be approved at this time. There is no New Business to discuss at this time. There is nothing to discuss under Public Forum. Under Old Business Sheriff Govier brought up the Alliance Auto Gas for discussion. The City of Marinette and Jefferson County are using this option for fuel and are very pleased. It was decided to bring this issu e back next month for further discussion. Chief Deputy Jack Johnson will contact Jefferson County to find out more on this issue. Under the Maintenance Report Carla McAndrew notified the committee that the job of replacing the bearings and rollers in the jail is now complete. Carla will also be meeting with a representative from Focus on Energy Wednesday. It was motioned by Steve and seconded by Larry to go into closed session. Roll call was taken with everyone present. It was motioned by Larry and seconded by Lester to go back into open session. It was motioned by Lester and second by Steve to adjourn to March 12, 2012 at 10:00 am following The Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting.
