--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard .
Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Lester second by Larry approved the agenda as mailed.
Steve second by John approved the minutes from the previous meeting. It was motioned by Steve and second by
Lester to pay the bills for the Sheriff’s Department and Coroner. All above motions carried.
There is no Coroner’s Report for this month.
Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson stated that there have been no fatalities since the last meeting.
The population in the jail has been low with no overcrowding.
There is no training to discuss at this time.
Under Grants, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson discussed a clicket or ticket grant available through BOTS/DOTS. Grant
County has been chosen to be the county that the funds will be awarded to. Grant County will then dispurse the
money to other participating counties. Finance Director Nancy Scott approved of this as long as a letter of
agreement from each participating county is received. It was motioned by Steve and seconded by Vince to send this
to the Full County Board. Motion carried.
Under New Business Chief Deputy Jack Johnson discussed some new policies. Chief Deputy Johnson asked the
committee to support him in keeping the overtime policy the same for the Jailers and Dispatchers as it is for the
Deputies. This would mean that Jailers and Dispatchers would get overtime pay for anything over their regular
scheduled work day. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by Steve to keep the overtime policy the same for Jailers
and Dispatchers. There was a 3 to 2 vote with the recommendation being in favor. Motion carried.
Chief Deputy Johnson would also like to ask that the Jailers and Dispatchers continue to receive New Years Eve as
an observed holiday. Committee members did not support the decision to have Dispatchers and Jailers get holiday
pay on New Years Eve.
It was also asked that the policy clarify that the Sergeants receive holiday pay on New Years Eve. The committee
members do support Sergeants being equal to the Deputies in that they receive holiday pay on New Years Eve.
Under Public Forum, County Board Member Larry Wolf has received a complaint that Cty U is often times covered
in horse menuar. Tourists have complained about this and will not return if the problem continues. Enforcement of
this was discussed and it was decided that this be put on the agenda for next month for further discussion.
Under Old Business, Chief Deputy Johnson discussed the option of propane conversion for squad cars. Chief
Deputy Johnson talked to Amerigas and Cenex about the conversion with both being supportive of the decision.
The option of Natural Gas was also discussed. It was decided to have Jack get more information on both options
and keep it on the agenda for next month.
Under the Maintenance Report, the need for a Maintenance Facilities Supervisor was reviewed. Chief Deputy
Johnson is currently the Supervisor of the Maintenance Staff at the Sher iff’s Department and things are going well.
It was recommended to keep Chief Deputy Johnson as Supervisor of the Maintenance Staff at the Sheriff’s
Department with Finance Director Nancy Scott overseeing the budget for the Maintenance Department
It was motioned by Lester and second by Larry to adjourn to May 14, 2012 at 10:00 am following The Grant County
Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
Respectfully Submitted,
Larry Wolf, Secretary
Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary
