HomeMy WebLinkAboutlawinforminutes10-08-12GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster WI 53813 October 8, 2012 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order October 8, 2012 at 10:10 a.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Patcle, John Beinborn, Lester Jantzen and Larry Wolf. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, Steve Braun, Emergency Government and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the Count y Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Pat second by Vincent approved the agenda. John B. second by Pat approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills were approved in motions by Vincent and seconded by Lester. All above motions carried. No Coroner’s Report for this month. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman asked to move ahead in the agenda to some items that will be discussed during the jail tour. A representative from SGTS, Inc. was present to answer any questions the committee may have on the bid that was sent to Jail Administrator Ed Breitsprecker. The bid was for the Replacement of the Cell Slider Mechanisms and is in the amount of $210,250.00. After much discussion it was motioned by Pat and seconded by John P. to send this to the Executive Committee for the 2013 Budget. Motion carried. Grant County had its 3rd fatal accident for the year. The accident happened on Hwy 129 and was handled very well by everyone who was helping at the scene of the accident. Two new Dispatchers have been hired and a 3rd one will be hired in December pending the completion of FTO Training by one of the new Deputies that have been hired. There currently is a Sergeant position open and Administration has started the hiring process. Sheriff Dreckman handed out a summary of the calls that were handled by Grant County Sheriff’s Department last month. Grant County is the primary officer on a majority of the calls and has on average about 30 minutes to handle each call. The amount of calls has increased from last year. Civil Process fees as well as charging for certain calls was discussed. There is no training to discuss at this time. There are no grants to discuss at this time. Under New Business Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee about an auction that the Sheriff’s Department would like to hold on January 11 and 12 of next year. The auction would be held at the Eickstein Building with the auctioning being done by Gary Bell. Used vehicles and items from the evidence room will be sold at the auction. Chief Deputy Johnson will notify all Department Heads for items they need to sell. Chief Deputy Johnson would like to use the money made from the auction to build a second shelf for the evidence room and to reimburse victims of crimes. It was motioned by Vincent and seconded by John B. to have the auction. Under Old Business, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson presented the committee with a 0% increase in the budget for 2013. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by Vincent to send the budget to the Executive Committee. Motion carried. The rental property on Madison Street has been vacated. The building needs a new roof and cannot be used for rental or storage. It was asked that the committee look at the building. Sheriff Dreckman met with the City of Platteville to discuss the Dispatch Consolidation. A Feasibility Study may be done and could be partially paid for with grant money. The Sheriff will keep the committee update d. Steve Braun presented the committee with three bids he received to replace the paging system. GenComm came in at $174,903.00, Comelec came in at $186,425.00 and Raycomm came in at $206,556.30. Steve along with the Sheriff and Chief Deputy feel that t he bid from GenComm was a very impressive proposal as well as detailed. There is $45,000.00 currently in the budget for this. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by John B. to go with GenComm. Motion carried. There are no Maintenance issues to discuss. It was motioned by Pat and second by John B. to adjourn after the jail tour to November 13, 2012 at 3:00 pm following The Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
