GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:50 a.m. by Chairman
Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Patcle, John
Beinborn, Lester Jantzen, and Larry Wolf.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Steve Braun, Emergency
Government and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by
Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Pat second by John
B. approved the agenda as mailed. Vince second by Lester approved the minutes from the
previous meeting. The bills were approved in motions by Lester and seconded by John B. All
above motions carried.
No Coroner’s Report for this month.
Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman handed out the monthly activity report. The Jail
population is still up with some inmates being housed at Vernon and Sauk County. There was a
fatal accident since the last meeting. The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. There were no
fatalities in 2012 where alcohol was a contributing factor. This may be due to many programs
like safe ride or road crew.
Sheri Zart has been hired as a full-time Dispatcher. The interview to fill the vacant Deputy
position will be held on January 16. There were 41 applicants and 15 will be interviewed.
The auction that was to be held at the Eckstein Building in January is being postponed to a later
date. Jack will keep the committee updated.
Pat Schroeder thanked the Sheriff for sending a Deputy out to his farm to respond to a n
incident.
Under Grants Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee of a grant offered by Charter Fuels
in the amount of $5,000.00 to go towards the purchase of a propane conversion kit . The
Sheriff’s Department would only be responsible for the remaining $1,100.00. The squad with
the propane conversion kit will be assigned to a Deputy residing in Lancaster. It was motioned
by Pat and seconded by John B. to apply for the grant.
Under New Business, Chief Deputy Johnson presented car bids. The Sheriff’s Department
would like to purchase 4 Ford Expeditions. The Lancaster Ford bid was $25,810.00. The Fillback
Ford bid was $25,751.68. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by Vince to go with the lowest
bid. Motion carried.
Under Old Business, the group who requested to use the rental property for AA Meetings has
not responded.
The new jail doors have been ordered and the first installment has been paid for out of the
2012 budget.
It was asked that bids on a new generator and installation be brought to next month’s meeting.
There are no Maintenance issues to discuss.
It was motioned by Vince and second by John B to adjourn to February 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
