GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

October 14, 2013
The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 11:12 a.m. by Chairman
Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Vincent Loeffelholz, John Beinborn, Larry Wolf and John
Patcle. Lester Jantzen and Pat Schroeder are excused.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer and Kelly
Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by
Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. John B. second by
Vince approved the agenda will the addition of Boscobel Boat Landing under New Business.
Vince second by Larry approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills were
approved in motions by Vince and seconded by John P. All above motions carried.
There is no Public Forum to discuss at this time.
Under Coroner’s Report, a fatal accident involving a 3 year old occurred in the Village of
Muscoda. The State Trooper’s will be handling the accident investigation.
Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman stated that 4 County Board Members have toured
the Law Enforcement Center since the last meeting. There is some work being done on the
food pass doors in the jail.
Sheriff Dreckman will be in contact with someone in regards to Project Lifesaver. This will help
provide safety and protection to people who may wander due to Autism, Alzheimer’s or other
conditions.
The Costumer Service Training that was held at the Administration Building was well attended
and very informative.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office will provide coverage if needed in the Village of Hazel Green
area while the Platteville Police Department is investigating the Chief of Police that has recently
resigned.
The Activity Report was passed out for review.
There is no Training to discuss at this time.
There are no Grants to discuss at this time.
Under New Business, Chairman Bob Scallan would like to discuss parking issues at the Boscobel
Boat Landing. The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for enforcing the laws at the boat landing.
There is a canoe business that is utilizing the boat landing and his business has increased. There
is not enough room for other people using the boat landing to park. This has become a safety
issue. Bob would like to discuss having a County Ordinance on parking at the boat landing.
Sheriff Dreckman will present this to Corporation Counsel and bring it back next month for
discussion.
Sheriff Dreckman would like to raise the Civil Process Fees. The amount collected for 2012 was
lower than previous years and many private individuals do not pay the fees owed. Kelly will do
more research on surrounding counties and agencies that provide Civil Process and present it at
the meeting next month.
Sheriff Dreckman asked that the County Ordinance Fine Schedule be chang ed. It was motioned
by Larry and seconded by Vince to have Corporation Counsel d raft a fine schedule stating not to
exceed $500.00 and the Possession of Marijuana to state not to exceed $1,000.00. Motion
carried. Sheriff Dreckman will bring the draft next month.
It was motioned by John B. and second by Larry to adjourn to November 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
