GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 2:17 p.m. by Chairman
Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Patcle, John
Beinborn, Lester Jantzen, and Larry Wolf.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, and Kelly Bird, Recording
Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by
Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Lester second by
John B. approved the agenda as mailed. Pat second by Vince approved the minutes from the
previous meeting. The bills were approved in motions by Lester and seconded by Pat. All
above motions carried.
No Coroner’s Report for this month.
Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman handed out the monthly activity report. The Jail
population has decreased with no inmates being housed out of county. There was a fatal
accident since the last meeting. Contributing factors were road conditions and equipment.
This is the first fatal accident for 2013.
Under Training, Sheriff Dreckman will not be going to the National Sheriff’s Association
Conference in Colorado because of it being cancelled . Sheriff Dreckman will reapply for the
September Conference.
Under Grants Sheriff Dreckman notified the committee of a $23,000.00 grant available through
the National Sheriff’s Association to be used for seatbelt enforcement and education . There is
no match for this grant. It was motioned by John B. and seconded by Lester to apply for the
grant. Motion carried. The grant will go to the Full Cou nty Board for final approval.
Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee of a AAA Grant available in the amount of
$3,825.00 with no match to be used for patrol equipment. It was motioned by Pat and
seconded by Larry to apply for the grant. Motion car ried.
There is no New Business at this time.
Under Old Business, Sheriff Dreckman updated the committee on the Crown Victoria that has
been outfitted with a propane conversion kit. The department has been pleased with the
performance of the car so far. The Deputy assigned to the car is a resident of Lancaster. The
squad car will be on display next month for the committee to look at.
The construction of the new jail doors will begin the first part of April
Chief Deputy Johnson had someone come an d look at the Law Enforcement Center and the
generator that is currently in place. The recommendation was a 300 kilowatt unit. The current
one being used is 60 kilowatt and was installed in 1957. Chief Deputy Johnson will hopefully
have bids for the cost of a new generator next month.
The auction is set for March 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. and will be held at the Eckstein Building.
The items will be delivered to the Eckstein Building on Friday before the auction. Items to be
sold can be viewed by clicking on a link at the Grant County Website. The auctioneer is asking
for 12 ½ % instead of the regular 15% and lunch will be provided onsite by The Ticket.
It was motioned by John B. and second by Vince to adjourn to April 8, 2013 at 9:00 a.m.
following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
