HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes4-8-13GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 April 8, 2013 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Beinborn, Lester Jantzen, and Larry Wolf. John Patcle asked to be excused. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Lester second by Larry approved the agenda as mailed. John B. second by Lester approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills were approved in motions by Pat and seconded by Vince. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum. Under Coroner’s Report Ron Sturmer passed out prices he received on vehicles to r eplace the van he uses. Ron notified the committee that the van needs about $1,500.00 in repairs. The van was purchased 6 years ago and has around 91,000 miles on it. It was motioned by Larry and seconded by John B. to repair the van and budget for a re placement in 2014. Motion carried. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, there was a one-vehicle fatal accident involving a semi. It is unknown what the cause of the accident was. An autopsy was done but the results have not been released. Sheriff Dreckman handed out the monthly activity report. The Jail population has increased some due to a busy weekend. There was a theft case solved in the west part of Grant County that may lead to several other cases being solved. Interviews for the open Dispatcher position will be held next week. The squad car equipped with the propane conversion kit has produced a savings of $680.00 in fuel costs for the month of March. Sheriff Dreckman and Chief Deputy Jack Johnson discussed the need for pre -employment psychology exams in the Sheriff’s Department. The state will start pushing for this in the future. They have met with an agency that does the exams to get some information. There is no Training to discuss at this time. There are no Grants to discuss at this time. There is no New Business at this time. Under Old Business, Chief Deputy Johnson discussed the auction that was held on March 23. The auction was the first one held by the Sheriff’s Department and brought in roughly $8,000.00 after all expenses and commissions were paid. This money will be used to build a second shelf in the impound shed. Chief Deputy Johnson will have the cost of building the shelf at the next meeting. Chief Deputy Johnson is still working on bids for a new generator and will hop efully have them at the next meeting. The repair work on the jail doors has not started. Sheriff Dreckman and Chief Deputy Johnson along with a couple of board members met with an architect to discuss preliminary plans of remodeling the jail. The State Inspector was also present and did state that a new jail was not needed. It was questioned why the Sheriff’s Department purchases tires for the squad cars out of county. The facility where the tires are purchased was the only business to submit state bid s for the tires. It was motioned by John B. and second by Vince to adjourn to May 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
