HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes9-16-13GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 September 16, 2013 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 3:09 p.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Pat Schroeder, Vincent Loeffelholz, John Beinborn, Lester Jantzen, Larry Wolf and John Patcle. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Vince second by John B. approved the agenda as mailed. Pat second by Lester approved the minutes from the previous meeting with the correction of the Sheriff not being in attendance at that meeting . The bills were approved in motions by Pat and seconded by John B. All above motions carried. Under Public Forum, Committee Chairman Bob Scallon received a letter in regards to some abused bunnies and chickens. This matter has been taken care of and was properly handled by the Deputy. Under Coroner’s Report, Coroner Ron Sturmer presented the 2014 Budget with a $198.00 increase over 2013. There was a substantial increase in revenue due to the raise in fees. The vehicle request for the Coroner was approved through Public Property. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Pat to approve the 2014 Budget for the Coroner. Motion carr ied. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman stated that there was some miscommunication as to who the letter inviting County Board Members to tour the jail was sent to. The letter will be sent to the County Board Members who are not on the Law Enforcement Committee. Sheriff Dreckman handed out the activity report for review. The jail population is at 57 inmates with 4 being housed out of county. The Annual Jail Inspection is almost complete and overall is satisfactory. There was a double fatality involving a motorcycle and vehicle which is still under investigation. Sheriff Dreckman would like to commend everyone who was involved in the James Kruger incident last week. Deputy Mark Schwarz has been promoted to Sergeant. Sgt. John Barker has stepped from the Sergeant Position and will resume duties as a Deputy. Erica Traver has been hired as a full-time Dispatcher. Sheriff Dreckman has just returned from a training that was located in Colorado. The training was for new Sheriff’s and had a lot of useful information. There is no Training to discuss at this time. There are no Grants to discuss at this time. Under New Business, Sheriff Dreckman presented the 2014 Budget to the committee with a 1.8% increase over 2013. The increase is due mostly to insurance and salary expenses. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by John P. to decrease fuel expenses by $10,000.00 and increase Contracted Revenue by $5,000.00 and send the budget to the Executive Committee. Motion carried. Under Old Business, Sheriff Dreckman updated the committee on the Dispatch Consolidation with the City of Platteville. The City of Platteville would like to split the cost of study to be done in regards to the Dispatch Consolidation. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by John P. to have the City of Platteville provide the whole cost of the study. Motion carried. It was motioned by Vince and second by John B. to adjourn to October 14, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
