HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes2-10-14GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 February 10, 2014 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:45 a.m. by Chairman Bob Scallon. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Vincent Loeffelholz, John Beinborn, Larry Wolf, Pat Schroeder, Lester Jantzen and John Patcle. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, Steve Braun, Emergency Government and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse by Linda Gebhard. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Pat second by John B. approved the agenda as mailed. John B. second by Vince approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by Vince and seconded by Pat. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum to discuss at t his time. Under Coroner’s Report, the Coroner’s will be required to take a 40 hour course to become Legal Licensed Medical Death Investigators. There will be no cost to the county. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman passed out the activity report for review. There are 57 inmates in jail with 2 on Electronic Monitoring and no inmates being housed out of county. There has been one fatal accident since the last meeting with road conditions being a factor. Alex Kress and Mason Nemitz have been hired full-time in the jail. The Sheriff’s Office is in the process of hiring a full- time Deputy. The most recent blizzard caused 131 calls for cars in the ditch or crashes. These were only the ones that were reported. Everyone involved did a good job helping out wherever needed. Law Enforcement are still looking for a driver who fled the scene of an accident where there were serious injuries. The Heroin Presentation at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College was well attended with over 250 people who came to listen. The next Heroine Presentation will be held on February 18 in Platteville. The squad care that runs on Propane Fuel is using gas do to the cost of Propane. There has been some overtime accrued by staff members during the bad weather. Th ere are also some employees on medical leave. Under Building Maintenance, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson gave the committee an overview of several repairs the Law Enforcement Center is in need of. Chief Deputy Johnson asked for the support to start a committee to brainstorm and plan for the long term solutions for the repairs. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by John P. to develop a committee in May 2014 to plan for building renovations. Motion carried. Under Training, Deputy Adam Day has completed DARE School and is currently teaching. There are no Grants to discuss at this time. Under New Business, Sheriff Dreckman passed out the Annual Report for 2013 for the committee to review. It was motioned by Pat and seconded by John B. to send the Ann ual Report to the Full County Board. Motion carried. Under Old Business, Sheriff Dreckman would like to keep the Civil Process Fees the same with the exception of increasing the mileage rate. It was motioned by John B. and seconded by Lester to keep the Civil Process Fees the same with the mileage being contingent with the IRS rate. Motion carried. Duane Jacobson has been assigned to the Contract Deputy Position and will be working in the Villages of Blue River, Bagley, Mt. Hope, Montfort, Livingston, and Woodman. Each Village has been sent a new updated contract to be signed. Deputy Hottenstein and K-9 Diego were involved in an accident. K-9 Diego and Deputy Hottenstein were both injured and the squad was totaled. A Grant County Cold Case has been spotlighted on Channel 3. It was motioned by John B. and second by Larry to adjourn to March 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
