HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes8-11-14 (2)GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 August 11, 2014 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:28 a.m. by Chairman Pat Schroeder. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Larry Wolf, Lester Jantzen, Bob Keeney, Bob Scallon, Gary Ranum and John Patcle. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Captain Anthony Sheckles and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Bob S. second by John approved the agenda as mailed. Larry second by Gary approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by John and seconded by Gary. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum to discuss at this time. There is no Coroner’s Report to discuss at this time. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman passed out the activity report for discussion. The jail count was 53 this morning with no inmates being housed out of county and one on the Electronic Monitoring Program. There was a drowning north of Potosi Point on Friday late afternoon. The victim was from Iowa and had been camping with friends. There was a fatal accident on Hwy 133 last month. Timmy Johnson has been formally charged in Grant County. The Contract Deputy for Montfort recently arrested someone for manufacturing meth. Riley Vogel has started his new position as Jailer today. The Sheriff’s Office is now at full staff. Under Training, the Rescue Task Force training was well attended with about 40 participating . There are no grants to discuss at this time. Under Maintenance, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson received an estimate for $10,000.00 to replace the doors in the Sheriff’s Office lobby. Chief Deputy Johnson will update the committee on the cost of repairs that are needed. Under New Business, Chief Deputy Johnson passed out the Public Property Request for 2015 and the Information Technology Request for 2015. It was motioned by Bob S. and seconded by John to send the Public Property Request on to the Public Pr operty Committee. Motion carried with 1 opposed. Captain Sheckles was present to discuss the Information Technology Request. The Grant County 911 System needs to be updated in addition to the Information Technology Request. This is estimated to cost around $100,000.00. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Gary to send the $14,462.32 request on to the Information Technology Committee. Motion carried. It was motioned by Bob K. and seconded by Gary to send the request for the 911 Upgrade on to the Information Technology Committee. Motion carried with 1 opposed. Sheriff Dreckman along with Attorney Benjamin Wood developed a Livestock at Large Ordinance. This was passed around to the committee members for review. This will only be issued to repeat offenders and will be issued to the owners of the livestock. It was motioned by Bob S. and seconded by Lester to send this on to the Full County Board. Motion carried. Under Old Business, the Sheriff’s Office will not need to come up with $5,000.00 t o have a Communications Tower Study done. It was motioned by Bob S. and seconded by Lester to adjourn to September 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
