HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes08-08-16 GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 August 8, 2016 The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman Gary Ranum. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Robert Keeney, Lester Jantzen, Donald Splinter, John Beinborn, and Ronald Coppernoll. Mike Lieurance asked to be excused. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, Steve Braun, Tonya White and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Office lobby. John second by Ron approved the agenda as mailed. Don second by Lester approved the minutes from the July 11 meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office were approved in motions by Lester and seconded by John. The bills for the Coroner were approved in motions by Ron and seconded by Lester. The bills for Emergency Government were approved in motions by Don and seconded by Ron. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum to discuss at this time . Under Coroner’s Report, the Public Property request for 2017 will be discussed with the Sheriff’s Office 2017 Public Property request. It was motioned by John and seconded by Ron to accept the Coroner’s Report. Motion carried. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman discussed the activity report. The jail population has been steady and calls have increased for the past month. The Sheriff’s Office received a very generous donation in the amount of $10,350.00 from Wayne Willkom of Glen Haven to go towards the purchase of ballistic helmets and additional body armor for the deputies. There has been a drowning in Wyalusing. The victim is a 29 year old female from Chicago. The Sheriff would like to thank the many people who helped search for the victim as well as donate food and water to all the volunteers. The search was called off after about 48 hours on the water and 2 ,000 man hours all together. Country on the River was held in Prairie du Chien over the weekend. Grant County Deputies helped provide security for the event. A double fatality crash happened on Friday. An individual driving a semi failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a vehicle occupied by two people from Illinois killing them instantly. The subject is in custody on 2 counts of negligent homicide by use of vehicle. Employees and board members toured Vernon, Juneau and Green Lake County facilities to get some ideas for the new building project. Vernon County is most similar to what Grant County needs. Chief Deputy Johnson would be willing to set up another tour for board members that were not available to attend the others. It was motioned by Ron and seconded by Lester to accept the Sheriff’s Briefing. Motion carried. Under Grants, the grant requested from Ray Eckstein has been awarded but Chief Deputy Johnson is trying to get the request to include vests. Under Maintenance, the urinal in the men’s bathroom that is located in the lobby is out of order. An estimate to repair has not been determined. Under New Business, Chief Deputy Johnson presented the Public Property Request for 2017 . It was motioned by Don and seconded by John to send this to the Public Property Committee. Motion carried. Chief Deputy Johnson presented the Public Property IT Request for 2017. Coroner Ron Sturmer presented this Public Property IT Request for 2017. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Ron to send th is to the Public Property Committee. Motion carried. There is no Old Business to discuss at this time. Under Director’s Report, Steve Braun has been meeting with the Red Cross to discuss the shelters that are located in Grant County. There was flash flooding in many areas of Grant County on July 21 and 22. Reports of damage are still being received. The funding for these events is based on a first come first serve basis. Steve is hopeful that funding will be available. Documentation is important when assessing the damage. Steve would like to transfer the county owned property located at 13272 Bluff Street in the Town of Glen Haven. The township is currently using this property as a parking lot and will continue to do so. Corporation Counsel is in agreement with the decision. It was motioned by Don and seconded by Ron to transfer this county owned property to the Township of Glen Haven. Motion carried. Emergency Management does not have a Public Property Request for 2017. It was motioned by Bob and seconded by Ron to accept the Director’s Report. Motion carried. It was motioned by Bob and seconded by John to adjourn to September 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Motion carried.
