HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes10-10-16GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 October 10, 2016 The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman Gary Ranum. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Robert Keeney, Lester Jantzen, Mike Lieurance, John Beinborn and Ronald Coppernoll. Donald Splinter asked to be excused. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, Steve Braun, and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office, Courthouse, Sheriff’s Office and on the county website. Lester second by Mike approved the agenda as mailed. Ron second by John approved the minutes from the September 12 meeting with corrections being made. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by John and seconded by Mike. The bills for Emergency Government were approved in motions by Ron and seconded by Mike. All above motions carried. Under Public Forum, Chief Terry Terpstra from the Cuba City Police De partment wanted to discuss concerns he has with officer safety issues. Chief Terpstra does not feel there are enough officers on duty to safely handle the call volume. It was decided that this item will be put on the agenda next month for further discussion. Under Coroner’s Report, Ron Sturmer did not have anything new to report. It was motioned by John and seconded by Mike to accept the Coroner’s Report. Motion carried. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, Sheriff Dreckman discussed the activity report. The current jail population is 55 with 1 inmate on the Electronic Monitoring Program and 4 being housed out of county . There have been 3 gun suicides in the last few weeks. There was a Law Enforcement Appreciation Picnic hosted by WGLR and Vesperman Farms on October 9 which was well attended. Four communities teamed with Law Enforcement in a food drive to support local food pantries. They raised around $2,500.00. It was motioned by Mike and seconded by Lester to accept the Sheriff’s Activity Report. Motion carried. There is no Training to discuss at this time. There are no Grants to discuss at this time. Under Maintenance, there is a new work order system in effect. The urinal in the Sheriff’s Office lobby has been boxed in to prevent further use. There is no New Business to discuss at this time. Under Old Business, the Armored Vehicle will be shipped on October 19. The vehicle needs new bullet proof windows and some paint. It will be stored in the impound shed. Zuercher training for all staff will be held later this month. The software will be implemented on October 25. The new 911 software is in the building and training will soon be offered to staff. The new phone system will soon be installed at the Sheriff’s Office. It was motioned by John and seconded by Lester to go into Closed Session per state statute 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises res ponsibility. Motion carried. All committee members attending this meeting were present to go into closed session. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Ron to come back to Open Session. Motion carried Under Director’s Report, Steve Braun handed out the final numbers for Wisconsin Disaster Funds. The damage will be verified by the state and will meet with each township. Steve expects that the townships will get about 70% of their cost reimbursed. Steven handed out photos of the Responding to Flammable Liquids Training. This class will be offered again in the spring. Steve and Tonya helped out with paperwork and damage assessment at the flooding in Crawford County. There was 1 fatality due to the flooding in Vernon County. FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant Applications opens tomorrow and are due in the middle of November. Some will be resubmitted from last year. Steve does most of the applications and will start on them by the end of the week. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Ron to adjourn to November 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Motion carried.
