HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes11-09-15GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 November 9, 2015 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:39 a.m. by Chairman Pat Schroeder. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Bob Scallon, Gary Ranum, Robert Keeney, Lester Jantzen, Johns Patcle and Michael Lieurance. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Bob S. second by Mike approved the agenda as mailed. Gary second by Lester approved the minutes from the previous meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by Bob S. and seconded by John. All above motions carried. Under Public Forum Chairman Pat Schroeder received a complaint about a Deputy. The She riff confirmed that there is no further action needed and the Deputy responded appropriately. Under Coroner’s Report, Coroner Ron Sturmer discussed the WFCAP Program regarding county funeral fees. It was motioned by Bob K. and seconded by Lester to maint ain the procedures that are currently in place. Motion carried. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, the monthly activity report was passed out. Car vs deer accidents have almost doubled in the last couple of months. The jail population is currently 47 and has been up a little the last month. There have been 2 fatal accidents since the last meeting. A new Female Jailer started today and was highly recommended . The Cuba City Police Department Commander passed away suddenly over the weekend. The Village of Potosi Chief of Police Steve Alexander has retired. Sheriff Dreckman and Chief Deputy Johnson met with the Village of Potosi to discuss contracting for law enforcement services. Sheriff Dreckman would like to commend Chief Deputy Johnson on his work with finding families in need for the pork donation. Chief Deputy Johnson dropped 3 packages at schools to give to families in need. There was also a package delivered to a veteran. All donations were very well received. Sheriff Dreckman traveled to Madison and testified on behalf of passing a new law that would require the use of headlights during diminishing weather. The Sheriff recently received a memo from Unified Counseling Se rvices stating they will now be recognizing the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday and will be working Veterans Day. Sheriff Dreckman wants the committee to know that he does not support this decision . There is no Training to discuss at this time. There are no Grants to discuss at this time. Under Maintenance, the staff have been painting and cleaning several areas. The work in the parking lot that is to be done by the Highway Department will be put on hold until the Spring. Under New Business, the amount charged for copies for open records was discussed . It was motioned by Gary and seconded by Mike to charge .25 a page with a minimum of $5.00 before being charged and prepayment will be required. Motion carried. Under Old Business, the project planning group for the LETG, LLC Software will be traveling to Minnesota to learn more about the software. The new software should be up and running by the end of March. The Dispatchers attended 3 demonstrations for 911 System Upgrades. They were held at the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Dreckman updated the committee on the Humane Society. Sheriff Dreckman wants to have a good working relationship with the Humane Society. There have been some invoices received as well as other correspondence. It is hopeful that the Humane Society will take a different approach and express goals, and their mission to Grant County. It was motioned by Mike and seconded by Bob S. to adjourn to December 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
