HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes12-14-15GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 December 14, 2015 The Grant County Law Enforcement Committee was called to order at 10:25 a.m. by Chairman Pat Schroeder. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMITTEE: Bob Scallon, Gary Ranum, Robert Keeney, Lester Jantzen, and Michael Lieurance. John Patcle asked to be excused. GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office and Courthouse. Kelly posted the agenda in the Sheriff’s Department lobby. Bob S. second by Lester approved the agenda as mailed. Bob K. second by Gary approved the minutes from the November 9 meeting with the addition of John Patcle being present, and the November 17 meeting. The bills for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by Bob S. and seconded by Mike. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum to discuss at this time . Under Coroner’s Report, Coroner Ron Sturmer notified the committee that he will be over budget for autopsies this year. Under Sheriff’s Briefing, the monthly activity report was passed out. Car vs deer accidents are still up. The jail population is currently at 49. Bookings have been down in the last month. The Village of Dickeyville Police Chief has retired. The village has been in contact with the Sheriff’s Office about contracting for law enforcement services. Sheriff Dreckman will keep the committee updated. Corporation Counsel drew up a proposal for the Grant County Human Society. A response to the proposal has not been received. Sheriff Dreckman will be in contact with the Lancaster Veterinary. The process for dog pick-ups will remain the same as of right now. There is no Training to discuss at this time. Under Grants DOTS/BOTS has a grant available for a distracted driving presentation in the amount of $4,120.00 with a 25% match. The match could be utilized through attendance for the presentation . Kids who are of driving age will be bused in to the location from surrounding schools. It was motioned by Bob K. and seconded by Lester to take this to the Full County Board. Motion carried. Under Maintenance, the staff have been painting and cleaning several areas. Chief Deputy Johnson received an itemized list from Comelec for the maintenance contract. The maintenance contract is around $18,000.00 a year. The itemized list of repairs under the maintenance contract would have cost around $13,000.00. Under New Business, Chief Deputy Johnson presented a proposal to the Village of Potosi for the purchase of their squad car in the amount of $23,500.00. The vehicle is a 2013 with around 50,000 miles and includes all of the equipment. A new squad with equipment would cost around $40,000.00. If the proposal is accepted it will be put in next year’s budget. Under Old Business, Sheriff Dreckman has reviewed the three 911 update proposals. They will be under the $200,000.00 that was planned. There will be 3 internal candidates that will be interviewed on Friday for the Potosi Contract position. It was motioned by Bob S. and seconded by Gary to adjourn to January 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. following the Grant County Emergency/Disaster Service Committee Meeting. Motion carried.
