HomeMy WebLinkAboutLECminutes3-21-17GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER Lancaster, WI 53813 March 21, 2017 The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by Chairman Gary Ranum. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Lester Jantzen, John Beinborn, Donald Splinter and Ronald Coppernoll. Mike Lieurance and Bob Keeney asked to be excused. GUESTS: Deputy Jack Johnson, Coroner Ron Sturmer, and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office, Courthouse, Sheriff’s Office and on the county website. Donald second by Ron approved the amended agenda as mailed. Lester second by Don approved the minutes from the February 13 meeting with one spelling correction. The invoices and Financial Report for the Sheriff’s Office and Coroner were approved in motions by Lester and seconded by John. All above motions carried. Under Training Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee that Sgt. Ed Breitsprecker and Jack will be going to the American Jail Association Annual Meeting that is bein g held in Orlando, Florida April 9 thru the 13th. There is a lot of information on New Jail Construction as well as training and information on Law Enforcement. The airfare and cost of the conference were reasonable. Chief Deputy Johnson will report back to the committee after attending the conference. Under Grants, Chief Deputy Johnson notified the committee of a grant from the Dubuque Racing Association in the amount of $9,900.00 for the purchase of communication devices for helmets. There is no match for this grant. It was motioned by Ron and seconded by Lester to send this to the County Board. Motion carried. Under New Business, Chairman Gary Ranum addressed the Grant County Stepping Up Initiative Resolution. This resolution is to help the number of people with mental illnesses in the county jail with more treatment options. It has also been endorsed by Social Services and Unified Community Services. It was motioned by Ron and seconded by Don to approve the Grant County Stepping Up Initiative Resolution. Motion carried. The resolution was passed around for signatures. It was motioned by Lester and seconded by Ron to adjourn to April 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Motion carried. Respectfully Submitted, Lester Jantzen, Secretary Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary
