DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER
Lancaster, WI 53813
May 8, 2017
The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee was called
to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman Gary Ranum. The following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: John Beinborn,
Lester Jantzen, Donald Splinter, Ronald Coppernoll, Mike Lieurance and Bob Keeney.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman; Steve Braun, Emergency Government and Kelly Bird, Recording
Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s office, Courthouse, Sheriff’s Office
and on the county website. John second by Mike approved the agenda with the amendment that the
Jail/911 Dispatch Tour be moved to the end of the meeting. Donald second by Bob approved the
minutes from the April 11 meeting. The invoices and Financial Report for the Sheriff’s Office, Coroner
and Emergency Government were approved in motions by Bob and seconded by Ron. All above
motions carried.
There is no Public Forum to discuss at this time.
There is no Coroner’s Report to discuss.
Under Sheriff’s Briefing the jail population has been up with an increase of female inmates. There was
a fatal crash in April. There were 4 occupants in the vehicle with the driver being the victim.
The monthly activity was discussed.
There has been a conditional offer pend ing the Psychological Exam for the Deputy position. There
were many good internal and external candidates for the job.
Under Training, the Motorcycle Gang Training will be held on Wednesday. Committee member John
Beinborn requested to attend the training and was denied. The training is for Law Enforcement only.
Sheriff Dreckman will be teaching a Social Media training.
Detective Ric Place will be teaching an Active Shooter training.
Chief Deputy Jack Johnson and Sgt. Ed Breitsprecker attended the Jail Conference in Orlando, Florida.
They attended training through webinars and received a lot of information on Correction Facilities th at
they will be relaying to Potter Lawson. Chief Deputy will update the committee next month.
There is a LEAN Training coming up in June. Employees from all departments are encouraged to
attend.
There are no Grants to discuss
There are no new Maintenance issues to discuss.
There is no New Business to Discuss this month.
Under Old Business, Sheriff Dreckman updated the committee on the Physical Fitness Incentive
Program. Employees are working hard and getting on board with the program. There has bee n one
presentation from Snap Fitness in Platteville.
Under Director’s Report, Steve Braun gave the committee an update on some LEAN initiatives his
department has been working on.
Under New Business, Steve Braun discussed the draft of the Regional Hazardous Materials Team
Contract. He is not expecting any changes and it meets all requirements. Corporation Counsel will
review it. It was motioned by Donald and seconded by Mike to send this to the full County Board
pending legislative approval from the Corporation Counsel. Motion carried.
It was motioned by Ron and seconded by Lester to go into closed session. Motion carried.
Roll call as taken with all members attending the meeting being present.
It was motioned by Ron and seconded by Mike to come back into open session. Motion carried.
It was motioned by Donald and seconded by Mike to adjourn to June 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Motion
carried.
