DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING

The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 9:00 a.m. via Zoom by John Beinborn. Chairman Roger Guthrie is excused. The
following members and personnel were present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Gary Ranum, Greg
Fry, Porter Wagner, Robert Keeney and Gary Northouse.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman; Chief Deputy Jack Johnson; Steve Braun, Emergency Management
Director; Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg; Shane Drinkwater, Information Technology; Tonya White,
County Clerk; Amanda Degenhardt, Finance Director; Joyce Roling, Personnel Director; Garry Pluemer,
Facilities and Maintenance Manager; Carol Schwarz, Administrator of Orchard Manor; The Herald
Independent; Martin-Schwartz Funeral Homes and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. Gary Ranum second by Greg Fry approved the agenda.
Greg Fry second by Gary Northouse approved the minutes from the April 12 meeting. All above motions
carried.
There was no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg notified the committee of a Funeral Home that has been practicing
without a license. The Funeral Home is under investigation and owes Grant County over $600.00. A
complaint has been filed. Porter Wagner second by Greg Fry motioned to move forward with charges
and send it to Corporation Counsel. Motion carried. Phyllis will update the committee next month.
It was motioned by Bob Keeney and second by Porter Wagner to approve the Coroner’s Financials and
Invoices. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed for April. Calls for Service for April were 2,901 with Grant
County handling 1,219. Inmate population was at 63 this morning. There were 56 inmates in house, 48
male and eight female. Four inmates are on the Electronic Monitoring Program and two have been
transferred to another county for Huber Work Release. One inmate is serving their sentence in another
county. There were 21 sentenced inmates, 12 waiting to be sentenced and nine on Probation Holds.
There are 21 inmates being housed for Scott County.
There was a white board session with RACOM to discuss the tower placement. Corporation Counsel is
working on a letter of intent for the next phase of the tower project.
The Grant County Law Enforcement Memorial will be held this Wednesday at 11:30 at the Community
Services Building. Everyone is invited to attend.
There is no update on the inmate release issue. The charging stations have not been installed yet.
It was motioned by Gary Ranum and seconded by Greg Fry to accept the Sheriff’s Briefing. Motion
carried.
Under Personnel, the Male Jailer Position has been filled with a part-time employee Tyler Timmerman.
We are accepting applications for Part-Time Jailers and Part-Time Dispatchers. Sergeant Brian Bierman
will be retiring at the beginning of June. Sergeant Adam Day resigned to take a job in the private sector.
Deputy John Barker also resigned to take a job in the private sector. Detective Dan Reuter has been
promoted to Sergeant to replace Adam Day. There are currently two Deputy Positions and one Sergeant
Position open. The positions have been advertised and interviews are being scheduled.
There was no Training do discuss.
Under Grants, there is a Wisconsin Department of Health Services grant in the amount of $3.264.44 to
purchase two laser jet printers for the Dispatch Center. This grant has no match. Gary Northouse
second by Porter Wagner motioned to apply for the grant and send it to the Full County Board. Motion
carried.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. Greg Fry second by Gary Northouse made a
motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun presented the Director’s Report. The COVID-19
vaccinations are slowing down. There is still plenty of vaccine on hand. There will continue to be
vaccine clinics once a week in Lancaster and Platteville. Children ages 12-15 will soon be eligible to
receive the vaccine. Personal Protective Equipment distribution will be done at the end of June. There
is a significant amount left over.
Gary Ranum second by Porter Wagner motioned to accept the Director’s Report. Motion carried.
Emergency Management’s Invoices and Financials were presented. Gary Northouse second by Gary
Northouse made a motion to approve the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
Gary Northouse second by Gary Ranum made a motion to adjourn to June 14, 2021 at 9:00 am. Motion
carried.
