DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING

The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Adam Day. The following members and personnel were
present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Porter Wagner,
John Beinborn, Brian Lucey, Gary Northouse, and Bob Keeney. Brandon Snyder was not present.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman; Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Steve Braun, Emergency Management
Director; Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg; Shane Drinkwater, Information Technology; Garry Pluemer,
Facilities Maintenance Manager; Joyce Roling, Personnel Director; The Telegraph Herald and Kelly Bird,
Recording Secretary .
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. Gary Northouse second by John Beinbborn approved
the agenda. John Beinborn second by Bob Keeney approved the minutes from the November 14
meeting. All above motions carried.
There was no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg notified the committee that all autopsy invoices have been paid and the
billing process has been corrected.
It was motioned by John Beinborn and second by Gary Northouse to approve the Coroner’s Financials
and Invoices. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed for November. Inmate population was at 49 this morning.
There were 43 inmates in house. There were 35 male and eight female. One inmate is on the Electronic
Monitoring Program and three have been transferred to another county for Huber Work Release. Two
inmates are serving their sentence in another county. There are 10 sentenced inmates, four waiting to
be sentenced and five on Probation Holds. There are currently 16 contract inmates. Congratulations to
Sheriff Dreckman on his term with the Badger State Sheriff’s Association as President and also being
elected to the Wisconsin Counties Association Board of Directors. The Shop with a Cop event for the
Christmas season will take place tonight. Thank you to Brian Lucey and Gooch’s Greenhouse for their
donation to the program.
Chief Deputy Travis Klaas wanted to keep the committee updated on some expenses and revenues that
are still pending and may not be taken care of within the 2022 Budget time period. There is a grant from
the Department of Administration in the amount $26,000.00 that is supposed to be awarded by the end
of the year. There is also a totaled squad that the Sheriff’s Office has not received information from the
insurance company on a buyout amount yet. There may be an option to purchase a used vehicle from
Crawford County to replace that vehicle. Ammunition is on backorder and may or may not come in
before the end of the year. There are a few Uniform Expenses and IT Supplies Expenses that will also
need to come out of the 2022 Budget.
Under the Radio Project Update, it is continuing to move forward with the Cassville site in the process of
being secured.
Under Personnel, a Corporal Position is open and will be filled internally. There is a Female Jailer
position open that will also be filled internally and one Male Jailer Position open.
There is no Training to discuss.
There are no Grants to discuss.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. Bob Keeney second by Porter Wagner made
a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun presented the Director’s Report. There have been
refresher courses for the Hazmat Team. Fire Fighters have had refresher courses on confined spaces.
Steve is still working on purchasing the Fire Trucks for the Boscobel Fire Department. The Assistance to
Firefighters Grant applications will soon be open. Steve and Jason have been working on the end of the
year close-out paperwork.
The approval to amend the 2018 Countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan to include schools who would like
brick funding was discussed with Corporation Counsel. It was decided to roll this amendment into the
2023 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update.
Emergency Management’s Invoices and Financials were presented. Gary Northouse second by Porter
Wagner made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
It was motioned by Gary Northouse and seconded by Porter Wagner to adjourn to Monday, February
13, 2023 at 9:00am. Motion carried.
