DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING
Lancaster, WI 53813
June 12, 2023
The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Adam Day. The following members and personnel were
present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Porter Wagner,
John Beinborn, Brian Lucey, Joe Mumm, Gary Northouse and Bob Keeney.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman; Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Steve Braun, Emergency Management
Director; Shane Drinkwater, Information Technology; and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. John Beinborn second by Joe Mumm approved the
agenda. Gary Northouse second by Brian Lucey approved the minutes from the May 8 meeting. All
above motions carried.
There was no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg is on vacation and not able to attend the meeting. Chief Deputy Travis
Klaas did check on a vehicle for the Coroner and there is not much available.
It was motioned by Porter Wagner and second by Brian Lucey to approve the Coroner’s Financials and
Invoices. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed for May. Inmate population was at 73 this morning. There
were 59 inmates in house. There were 47 male and 12 female. Ten inmates are on the Electronic
Monitoring Program. There are 25 sentenced inmates, 13 waiting to be sentenced and 13 on Probation
Holds. There are currently eight contract inmates. Calls for Service are up as well as 911 calls.
Under the Radio Project Update, it is continuing to move forward with the Cassville site still in the
process of being secured.
Under Personnel, the Sheriff’s Office is in need of Part-Time Employees.
Under Training, Captain Craig Reukauf has been accepted to Command College.
Under Grants, Chief Deputy Travis Klaas notified the committee of a grant from We Energies with no
match. This will be used to purchase headsets for the SWERT. The current ones will not work with the
new equipment. It was motioned by Gary Northouse and seconded by John Beinborn to approve the
grant and send it to the County Board. Motion carried.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. Porter Wagner second by Brian Lucey made
a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun presented the Director’s Report. The three Firetrucks
that Steve ordered have been put on hold. The Mississippi Flooding is winding down with very few
families being displaced.
The Hazard Mitigation Update draft was sent out to committee members and the state. Steve will give a
presentation to this committee in August.
The State Hazardous Materials Response Team Contract is not ready today but will be ready to move
forward with this committee’s approval when it is finished. It was motioned by Gary Northouse and
seconded by John Beinborn to have Bob Keeney sign off on the contract when it is completed. Motion
carried.
Steve would like to carryover one week (5 days) of vacation. It was motioned by John Beinborn and
seconded by Joe Mumm to approve the carryover of one week of vacation. Motion carried.
Emergency Management’s Invoices and Financials were presented. Gary Northouse second by Bob
Keeney made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
It was motioned by Gary Northouse and seconded by Brian Lucey to adjourn to Monday, July 10, 2023 at
9:00am. Motion carried.
