HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 LECminutes10-09-23GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING Lancaster, WI 53813 October 9, 2023 The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Adam Day. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Porter Wagner, John Beinborn, Brian Lucey, Joe Mumm, Gary Northouse and Bob Keeney. GUESTS: Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Steve Braun, Emergency Management Director; Shane Drinkwater, Information Technology; Phyllis Fuerstenberg, Coroner; the Herald Independent and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services Building, courthouse and on the county website. Gary Northouse second by Brian Lucey approved the agenda. Joe Mumm second by Bob Keeney approved the minutes from the September 11 meeting. All above motions carried. There was no Public Forum to discuss. Coroner: Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg was late to the meeting due to a call for an Amish infant death. She is communicating with Corporation Counsel Ben Wood on performing an autopsy within the Amish Community. There were no Coroner’s Financials or invoices to be approved this month. Sheriff’s Briefing: The Sheriff’s Briefing was presented by Chief Deputy Travis Klaas. The monthly activity report was reviewed for September. Inmate population was at 53 this morning. There were 48 inmates in house. Four inmates are on the Electronic Monitoring Program. There are currently three contract inmates. There was one fatal accident involving a motorcycle. On September 17 there was an attempted homicide. Chief Deputy Travis Klaas noted that the 2024 Budget was approved and will move on to the Full County Board. Under the Radio Project Update, it is continuing to move forward with radio installation starting in the first five sites. Under Personnel, three Male Jailers that have been interviewed are now going through the background process. There was no Training to discuss. There were no Grants to discuss. The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. John Beinborn second Gary Northouse made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried. Emergency Management: Emergency Management Director Steve Braun presented the Director’s Report. The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants were reviewed and 11 out of the 40 received in the state were in Grant County. Kaden Timmerman is a Public Safety Major at UW Platteville and will be interning with Emergency Government. Emergency Government has a new drone in service that is identical to the one in the Sheriff’s Office. Steve is also working on updating the County Emergency Management Plan. Emergency Management’s Invoices and Financials were presented. Bob Keeney second by Gary Northouse made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried. It was motioned by Gary Northouse and seconded by Brian Lucey to adjourn to Monday, November 13, 2023 at 9:00am. Motion carried.
