DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING

The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 10:30 a.m. by Chairman Kathy Kopp. The following members and personnel were
present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: John Beinborn,
Gary Ranum, Richard Sanson, and Bob Keeney. Adam Day and Brian Lucey were excused.
GUESTS: Sheriff Nate Dreckman; Steve Braun, Emergency Management Director; Coroner Phyllis
Fuerstenberg; Shane Drinkwater, Information Technology; Tonya White, County Clerk; and Kelly Bird,
Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson approved the
agenda with the addition of Jail Tour discussion. Bob Keeney second by Rick Sanson approved the
minutes from the April 8 and April 16 meetings with one correction in the April 8 minutes. All above
motions carried.
There is no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Fuerstenberg did not have any items to discuss. She currently does not have access to her
Financial Reports in Tyler Munis but did send her invoices to the committee members. A Help Desk
Ticket was sent to the IT Department by the Coroner to get this issue fixed. She will also send her
reports to the new committee members in the future.
Bob Keeney second by John Beinborn made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials for the
Coroner. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun presented the Director’s Report via zoom. He is currently
at a Regional Power Outage Exercise. Code Red has received approval from the state to continue with
the implementation process and will hopefully go public by next week. The inventory on the equipment
that was received in the fall has been put on hold due to Code Red. Steve will hopefully get to it this
month.
John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson made a motion to accept the Director’s Report. Motion carried.
Emergency Management’s Invoices and Financials were presented. Gary Ranum second by John
Beinborn made a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed for the month of April. Inmate population was at 52 this
morning. There were 44 male inmates and eight female. Six inmates are on the Electronic Monitoring
Program. There are 22 sentenced inmates, seven waiting to be sentenced, three on Probation Holds,
two serving their sentence in another county and one Huber transfer. There are currently 11 contract
inmates. Contract Inmates and Probation Holds have increased.
John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson made a motion to accept the Sheriff’s Report. Motion carried.
Under the Radio Project Update, things are on track with Bloomington and Millville sites getting
shelters. There are some issues with the Cassville site due to tribal approvals. Bob is working on getting
this resolved.
Under Personnel, there are two Female Jailer openings. There will be one Male Jailer opening this
summer. There is one Deputy Position open with an upcoming retirement in July. There have not been
many applicants for any of the openings. There are also two employees currently attending the Law
Enforcement Academy at SWTC but will not be ready for the road until October.
There was no Training to discuss.
There were no Grants to discuss.
It was decided that a Jail Tour will be held next month as well as a meal prepared by the Jail Kitchen
Staff for those that wish to attend. This will take place after the meeting. A count will be taken when
the agenda is sent out next month.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. John Beinborn second by Gary Ranum made
a motion to accept the Invoices and Financials. Motion carried.
It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Rick Sanson to adjourn to Monday, June 10, 2024 at
10:00am. The time change is due to the Jail Tour and meal this is being provided. Motion carried.
