Loeffelholz
Meeting called to order at 9:05 a.m. Motion by Steve, Second by Julie that we are in compliance with the open
meeting law. Motion carried.
Public Comments: There were no guests or community members present, thus no public comment.
Emergency Management Report:
Training offerings were discussed at length. Steve went through the calendar with the committee and discussed
that with combination HAZMAT team from Jo Daviess County, a lot of training for HAZMAT will be offered over the
course of 2010. Steve discussed that a trench rescue training has never been held in Grant County and expects a
lot of participation. Moving further down the calendar, he discussed the upcoming ice rescue classes that will be
sponsored by White Bear Training Center and paid for by Stearns equipment. Julie is working to get an ice rescue
offering established in Lone Rock in Richland County to encourage participation in the tech rescue team from
Richland County and Iowa County. The original date of the last weekend will not work as many members of the
training team will be away at the Wisconsin EMS Association annual meeting and training in Milwaukee. Steve
explained that he is hopeful that our offering of rope rescue training will encourage many new members to the
team. He has had interest inquiries from surrounding counties including, Richland, Iowa, Lafayette and Crawford
Counties. He expects the courses to be full. Question about taking the course – what is the cost associated with it.
Response that if you become a member of tech rescue that the training will be free otherwise it will be $160 for
the individual. Moving toward the summer months, discussion about the Lock and Dam training and boat and jet
ski training were discussed. Julie mentioned that she had found a location near Platteville that might be suit able
for the mine/cave training scheduled for July.
Old Business:
The Rehab truck was discussed by Steve. He told the committee that the Grant County Fire Association passed a
motion supporting the purchase of the truck and equipment at their last meeting on December 02, 2009. Motion
by Jennifer, Second by Rick to approve $6,000 towards the purchase of the truck and associated equipment.
Motion carried.
New Business:
Steve passed around a list of potential fire grants that have received favorable reviews by FEMA, which he believes
will be officially awarded in the next few weeks. Fire grant awards have been seriously delayed for an unknown
reason, so the list is not “official”.
Meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m. Next meeting to be held the first part of March where we will discuss rates for
HAZMAT response and review EPRCA plans.
