The Grant County Emergency Disaster’s Services was called to order December 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. by
Chairman Bob Keeney. The following members and personnel were present:
EMERGENCY DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Lester Jantzen, Gary Ranum, Larry Wolf, John Patcle, Bob
Scallon, and Pat Schroeder.
GUESTS: Kelly Bird, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Steve Braun, Emergency Government and Tonya White,
Recording Secretary.
Steve Braun verified the agenda has been posted by Linda Gebhard and it was posted on the county
website. John second by Bob S. approved the agenda. Larry second by Bob S. approved the minutes. Pat
second by John approved the bills. All above motions carried.
Public Comments: None
Under Old Business Steve gave an update on the radio grant. He stated that the vendor is having some
difficulties with using our existing microwave link to carry the simulcast signal. They are doing some
troubleshooting and tests in the field and at the workshop. They should have a report to us with a solution
later this week.
Also under Old Business Steve gave an update about the Platteville Tornado. The City of Platteville
application to the Wisconsin Disaster Fund was approved last week and they should be getting the check
within the next few weeks. Most of the city's expenses related to the tornado were either covered by
insurance or through the state Disaster Fund. On the individuals and families side, the Tornado Recovery
Committee met for the last time in November and distributed the remaining donated funds. Wisconsin
Emergency Management has asked the City and our office to do a break out discussion session on the
response to/recovery from the tornado at the Governor’s Conference in Milwaukee this spring.
Under New Business Steve passed out a report of the AFG grants that were submitted. We did submit a
grants for every fire department that requested assistance. For the first year we did not apply for a
communications grant. The feelings was that since we are currently in the process of a major upgrade, the
best thing to do is to wait until all the new upgrades are complete and apply again next year once we have
a better feeling for where how the system performs and what our future needs will be. Steve explained
that some of the dollar requests were lower than usual due to changes in the AFG program. Department's
who submit a grant for under $25,000 get extra points because it was considered a micro-grant. Many
departments elected to go that route. The awards should start this spring and continue for about five
months.
It was motioned by Lester and second by Gary to adjourn until January 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Motion
carried.
