Director’s Monthly Report: Last month most of our time was spent working on AFG grants. They started in December
and concluded January 15th. We wrote a grant for every department that requested one. Steve passed out a
spreadsheet listing the grants that were submitted, which outlined 35 applications for a combined total of $4,145,641 in
equipment and vehicles. Steve discussed regional grants that were submitted. There were two regional grants written
for wildland firefighting gear including protective coats, pants, boots, helmets and other equipment to fight wildland
fires. The one sponsored by the Wauzeka Fire Department is for any department in the DNR protection area. The
second one sponsored by the Platteville Fire Department is for departments outside of the DNR protection area. The
regional grant sponsored by the Cassville Fire Department is for mobile and portable radio upgrades for the county EMS
and fire departments. Potosi EMS sponsored a grant for mechanical CPR devices for all interested EMS departments in
the county. Lancaster Fire Department sponsored the grant previously discussed by this committee for equipment to
monitor our radio system for outages. Cuba City Fire Department sponsored a grant for a grain bin rescue trailer.
Lancaster EMS sponsored a regional grant for a specialized communications gateway device that will improve
communication with departments in Iowa and Illinois on emergency scenes such as railroad incidents or hazardous
materials calls.
Under Old Business Steve spoke about the June storms. Wisconsin Emergency Management has filled the vacant
position, and the new Disaster Fund Coordinator has been working on Cassville’s application for a few weeks now. They
also started working on Lancaster’s application last week.
