HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark, May 15, 20121 PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES May 15, 2012 The Park Committee of the Grant County Supervisors met on May 15, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. starting in Room 201 and moving to Room 266; more room was needed. The meeting was held on second floor of the Administration Building, Lancaster, WI, pursuant to the last meeting of February 21, 2011. Larry Wolf, County Board Chair called the meeting to order, verification was made by the County Clerk, Linda K. Gebhard that the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law, published in the Herald Independent, posted in two places and on the county website. Members present: Robert Scallon, Donald Splinter, Ivan Farness, Bill Biefer, Roger Guthrie, Larry Wolf, Dale Hood, and Randy Hamann and Richard Wilkinson were also present. Election of Officers: Nominations for the Committee Chair person were called for by Larry Wolf, announced three times. Robert Scallon nominated Ivan Farness. Roger Guthrie, seconded by Don Splinter, made a motion to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot to election Ivan Farness as Chair of the Parks Committee. Motion carried. Ivan Farness called for nominations for Vice Chair for the Parks Committee, announcing three times. Don Splinter nomimated Robert Scallon. Roger Guthrie, seconded by Don Splinter, made a motion to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot to election Robert Scallon as Vice Chair of the Parks Committee. Motion carried. Ivan Farness called for nominations for Secretary for the Parks Committee, announcing three times. Robert Scallon nominated Don Splinter for the Secretary office of the Parks Committee. Roger Guthrie, seconded by Robert Scallon, made a motion to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot to election Don Splinter as Secretary of the Parks Committee. Motion carried. Agenda: Don Splinter, seconded by Roger Guthrie, made a motion to approve the agenda with the striking of line item #6 Food Vendor Request. No action will be taken on the issue at this time. Motion carried. Minutes: Ivan Farness, seconded by Robert Scallon, made a motion to approve the minutes of February 21, 2012. Motion carried. Capping well in Boscobel Recreation Area: The Parks Committee hopes to apply for a grant with Land Conservation to help River Access with the cost of capping the well at the Boscobel Recreation Area. Don Splinter, seconded by Robert Scallon, made a motion to have Randy Hamann and Dick Wilkinson contact a local plumber to check on the well for depth and width so the information can be reported to the County Clerk, Linda Gebhard. This information will be submitted to Land Conservation to quote a price on how much the capping of this well would cost. Motion carried. Updates on County Boat Landings: Todd Johnson, Extension Comm. Agent, was present to talk about the O’Leary’s Boat Landing. The County still has some grant money available for improvements to this boat landing. The greatest need on the boat landing is a cable to secure the dock to the land in case of high water in the future. Todd will contact DNR to see if this would qualify as maintenance work. Todd stated that DNR would have the final say as to the use of the money. Faherty Garbage Service has a dumpster places at the O’Leary Boat Landing, questions were raised as to who is paying for it. 2 Wyalusing Boat Landing was under water most of last year. Launch was installed this year and the water came up again; thing are on hold for now. Hoping to continue the improvements to the parking lot black top this year and install better signage with bigger print in better location throughout the landing. There was vandalism on the dock, the connecting steel piece that connects the dock with the walk way was stolen. Larry Austin will be contacted by the County Clerk, Linda Gebhard to obtain the manufacturers name for a replacement piece. A security cable was discussed to help secure the dock to the land in case of high water again. The Rule Company still has equipment and supplies at the landing, final payments to them will be held until the area has been cleaned up. New Truck: The River Access employees commented on the new truck. It has been working fine for them. The old truck will be placed on the County web site for any potential in-house use. If there are no requests to purchase it; the Highway Department will put it on the Wisconsin Surplus Action. Tour: The Boat Landing Tour has been set for June 13, 2012 starting at the Administration Building at 8:00 a.m. An ADRC Bus drivers will drive one of the ADRC’s bus to transport the committee members on the tour. Adjournment: Roger Guthrie, seconded by Don Splinter, made a motion to adjourn the meeting pursuant to June 13, 2012 the next meeting of the Parks Committee.
