HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark, June 5, 20141 PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES June 5, 2014 The Park Committee of the Grant County Supervisors met on June 5, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 266 on second floor of the Administration Building, Lancaster, WI, pursuant to the last meeting of May 1, 2014. Robert Scallon, County Board Chair called the meeting to order. Verification was made by the County Clerk, Linda Gebhard that the meeting was in compliance with the open meeting law, published in the Herald Independent, posted in two places and on the county website. Members present: Donald Splinter, Dale Hood, Robert Scallon, Vern Lewison, and Daniel C. Timmerman. Also present were Robert Keeney, County Board Chair and Randy Hamann and Richard Wilkinson, River Access Employees, John Beinborn, Dave Lambert, Highway Commissioner, Larry Austin, Surveyor. Agenda: Dale Hood, seconded by Dan Timmerman, made a motion to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Minutes: Donald Splinter, seconded by Vern Lewison, made a motion to approve the minutes of May 1, 2014. Motion carried. The committee left at 9:00 a.m. to start the Boat Landing Tour, starting at Boscobel. Before the committee left Robert Keeney stated that he had found a letter written by JoAnne Millhouse, prior Corporation Counsel sent to John Patcle, past County Board Chair, regarding the signage at the Boscobel Landing. She stated that if the landing was owned by the County; they had the determination to place any signage that was required. Boscobel Boat Landing: With the presence of some concerned citizens, the committee discussed the conditions at the landing. They discussed the feasibility of taking out the garbage cans from this landing. The existing garbage cans have never been adequate for all the garbage that continually is left behind. Vern Lewison, seconded by Dale Hood, made a motion to install a sign made by the Highway Department stating, “Take out what you bring in”. Motion carried. Don Splinter, seconded by Dale Hood, made a motion to install a sign which will be made by the Highway Department that would stipulate with arrows, “Canoe Launch” and “Boat Launch” to help clarify the usage of the parking area. Motion carried. Don Splinter, seconded by Dan Timmerman, made a motion to authorize Robert Scallon, Chair of the Parks Committee, to contact an excavating company to have sand build up at the entrance of the landing removed when conditions call for this measure. Motion carried. 2 Glen Haven Landing: Discussion was held regarding the railroad crossing, parking, possible seal coating and launch possibilities. Some concerned citizens were in attendance at the landing. All other boat landing was visited with no pertinent issues to address at this time. The water was still high making some impossible to tour and there was still mud at some of the landings making them hard to navigate through. Adjournment: The committee finished the tour back at the Administration Building. Vern Lewison, seconded by Dale Hood made a motion to adjourn the meeting pursuant to the next meeting at the call of the chair. Motion carried.
