The meeting was called to order by Tony Runde at 1:00 p.m. The following committee members were present: Larry Wolf, Bob Keeney, Tony Runde, Steve Adrian, Lynn Moris, and John Patcle; therefore there was a quorum. Also in attendance were Sheriff Keith Govier, Chief Deputy Jack Johnson, Maintenance Coordinator Mark Lucey, Deputy Pete Janisch, and Recording Secretary Kelly Bird along with the members of the Law Enforcement Committee . Larry Wolf, second by John Patcle, verified that the meeting had been in compliance with the open-meeting law. Motion carried. John Patcle, second by Larry Wolf, approved the agenda. Motion carried. Future County Facility and Plans were discussed. Sheriff Keith Govier passed out an overview that was previously done to expand the current Grant County Jail. The numbers have currently been low. This is due to a combination of the Judges and District Attorney’s decisions. There was a question as to whether a new jail should be built or if it would be possible to build on to the current facility. Maintenance Coordinator Mark Lucey was asked to explain the condition of the plumbing, electrical, furnaces and air conditioning. Mark feels that the building is in decent shape in regards to maintenance issues. The only concern is the current generator is not working as well as it should be. The Sheriff’s Department should have a larger generator. When there is a power outage, not all of the building is able to run on the current generator. It was decided to have Sheriff Govier get some concrete numbers on expanding the current jail to house 89 inmates and bring back for further discussion. Deputy Pete Janisch was present to speak about the communication tower. The current tower is in good condition, but the amount of weight on the tower is an issue. The Sheriff’s Department is renting some tower space from Queen B Radio . The purchase of a new communications tower should be considered in the future. The current tower should be kept for back-up. The new tower should be located on separate land, and about 5 acres would be needed. It was motioned by John Patcle and seconded by Steve to adjourn. Motion carried.
