The regular quarterly Grant County Traffic Safety Commission Meeting was called to order by
Captain Tony Sheckles at 1:00 p.m. The following Traffic Safety Commission members and
guests present:

Confirmation of Open Meeting Law: The agenda was posted in the lobby at the Sheriff’s
Office, the County Clerk’s Office and on the Grant County website.
Adoption of Agenda: The agenda was approved in motions by Jeff and second by Dave. The
minutes from the previous meeting were approved in motions by Bob and second by Jeff.
Motions carried.
New Business: There is a request to lower the speed limit from 40 mph to 30 mph on Hwy 61
going through Potosi and Tennyson in front of the school. There is parking on both sides of the
street during events at the school and lots of children travel through this area to get to the
school. The state will do a speed study when the weather permit s and follow up with the
committee.
A similar issue is occurring in Hazel Green. There has been a request to reduce speed limits on
portions of STH 11 and STH 80. There are complaints about speed, some accidents, and lots of
close calls. There are several residences and intersections on these portions of the road. The
state is also going to allow ATV’s and UTV’s to travel on the highways in the cities and villages
with village approval causing more traffic. The state will also do a speed study in this area and
follow up with the committee.
The Village of Patch Grove requested a speed limit reduction on Hwy 35 at the portion that
nears Hwy 18. The speed limit at this portion is currently 45 mph. It is requested to lower the
speed limit to 35 mph. The state will also do a speed study in this area and follow up with the
committee.
Old Business: There is no Old Business to discuss at this time.
Citizen Complaints: There are no citizen complaints to discuss at this time.
The county statistics were passed out and discussed.
That state statistics were passed out and discussed.
The state updated the committee on projects that are being done.
Other Business: No Other Business to discuss at this time.
The next meeting date will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
It was motioned by Jeff and seconded by Dave to adjourn. Motion carried.
