HomeMy WebLinkAbout03 Minutes March 17AGRICULTURE AND EXTENSION EDUCATION/ FAIR COMMITTEE MEETING Monday, Monday, March 17, 2025 9:00 a.m. The March meeting was held in the Extension Office Conference Room at the Youth & Agriculture Center and by Zoom. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Roger Guthrie, Present in person were Joe Mumm, Pat Schroeder, Gary Northouse, Kathy Kopp, Mark Vosberg, Bob Keeney, Nate Dreckman, Amy Olson, Lori Vesperman, James Schneider, Charisse Orth, Bev Doll, Kim Kester, Jackie McCarville, Lynn Perkins, Casey Hines and Chris Pier. Present by Zoom were Shane Drinkwater, Tonya White, Maggie Milcarek, Herald Independent and Lisa Kneller. The meeting notice was posted at the Extension Office, Youth & Agriculture Center, Administration Building, on the Grant County website and emailed to media. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve the agenda. Motion carried. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Joe Mumm, to approve the minutes of the meeting held January 27, 2025. Correction needs to be made to Chula Vista Minutes. Motion carried. Deb Reukauf presented information on the Teen Court Grant. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to approve applying for the grant and sending on to the full County Board. Motion carried. Educator reports were given by Bev Doll, James Schneider, Charisse Orth, Kim Kester, Jackie McCarville and Maggie Milcarek. James Schneider presented a letter of resignation to the committee. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to accept James’ resignation with deep regret. Motion carried. Lynn Perkins gave the AED update. She shared information on federal funding. A planned Community Conversation with Grant County Educators will be held Tuesday, May 6 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. The purpose is to discuss needs and perspectives with Grant County partners and community members on the following areas: youth development, community development, agriculture, human development and relationships. Discussion was held on filling the Community Development Education Position. Farm Progress Days Scholarship applications were reviewed. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Vosberg, to award the Farm Progress Days Scholarship to Matthew Winch. Motion carried. Motion by Gary Northouse, seconded by Mark Vosberg, to approve the Extension vouchers. Motion carried. Amy Olson gave the grounds and maintenance and Youth & Agriculture Center report. Maintenance is painting the Eckstein Hall restrooms, waxing building floors, doing grounds work, getting storage out and cleaning the buildings. Farm Bureau approached Amy regarding putting a cement pad by their stand to place a donated bench there. Fair and Fairgrounds Business. Discussion was held on an electronic recycling event at the Fairgrounds in November, 2025. Casey Hines of Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations shared information with the committee. Chris Pier of MRM along with Lisa Knell of Universal Recycling Technologies presented information. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Gary Northouse, to have Universal Recycling Technologies hold the recycling event if they complete the terms of the recycling events held in 2024 by April 1, 2025. Motion carried. Amy advertised for sponsorship signage on the dairy pole barn. She received interest from three parties. By drawing, Foremost Farms was selected for the dairy pole barn. The sponsor will provide their own sign. There will be a five-year contract with a cost of $1,000 each year. The contract for Open Show Barn signage ends in March. Rolling Hills was drawn for the opportunity to sponsor the Open Show Barn. Farm Bureau was the third party interested. Amy is holding a meeting with some individuals to discuss forming a Friends of the Fair 501(c)3. IAFE is offering an Economic Impact Study costing $1,500. Amy shared WAF is giving $75,000 to 75 fairs in Wisconsin to help get the impact study done for IAFE. Amy handed out the agenda for the District Meeting on April 2. Discussion was held on Fairbook changes regarding separate classes for gilts and barrows. A puzzle competition will be held Thursday night of the Fair in the entertainment tent with 10 teams participating. Amy is looking for someone to sponsor a card for re-entry into the Fair. The Committee would like the National Anthem recited before each livestock show. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to sign contracts with Supercross Motorsports ($6,200), Docs Ultimate Entertainment ($375) and Badger State Tractor Pullers ($19,025). Motion carried. The bands are set for Saturday. Motion by Mark Vosberg, seconded by Joe Mumm, to approve the vouchers. Motion carried. Livestock claims in the amount of $320 were approved at the County Board meeting. Motion by Pat Schroeder, seconded by Kathy Kopp, to adjourn until the next meeting, April 21, 2025. Motion carried.
