HomeMy WebLinkAbout07 Minutes-July 17 2025 HIGHWAY COMMITTEE MEETING July 17, 2025 The Highway Committee met on Thursday July 17, 2025 at 9:00 am, at the County Highway Department in Lancaster, the meeting was also available via Zoom. Members present were, Gary Northouse, Patrick Schroeder, and Lester Jantzen. Diane Nelson and Roger Guthrie asked to be excused. Others present were Nate Dreckman, Bob Keeney, Jon Knautz, Steve Morgan, Donna Bohnenkamp, Trenton Wood, Jason Kieler, and Travis Kramer. Notice of the meeting was sent to the Herald Independent, Administration Building, posted at the Highway Department and on the Grant County web site. Gary Northouse called the July 17th Highway Committee meeting to order. Agenda: Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen moved to approve the July 17th agenda. Motion carried. Minutes: Lester Jantzen, seconded by Pat Schroeder moved to approve the minutes from the June 19th Highway Committee Meeting. Motion carried. Check Listing: Pat Schroeder, seconded by Lester Jantzen, moved to approve the June Check Listing report as printed. Motion carried. State Requisition: The May Requisition has been sent to the State DOT for $116,340.30, which is $22,608.45 over our estimated monthly budget. As of the end of May, we are over our estimated yearly budgeted amount by $75,931.77. The Office Manager also reviewed the County account balances. The Office Manager informed the Committee that Nate Dreckman and Patrick Montgomery came out to the Highway Department to observe the accounting software and procedures the Highway Department has in place. The State crews have been fixing concrete blow ups and damage from the storms. They have also been repairing guardrail from accidents. The County crews have been mowing, repairing shoulders from the storms and working on construction projects. The shop has been doing general and preventative maintenance. The new shop truck is progressing nicely, once completed, the old one will be put up for sale on either WI Surplus or Gov/Deals. There may be additional vehicles that may be put up for sale as well. Travis gave an update on the Patch Grove Salt shed; we will be soliciting for bids to construct the shed. He also mentioned there will be an OPM (Operational Planning Meeting) for the CTH O, Platt River Bridge on July 17th here at the Highway Department. Commissioner Report: Sale of Bagley Shed: Wild-Wood Properties has agreed to accept transfer of the Bagley shed using a quit-claim deed. Ben Wood is in the process of preparing the paper work. CTH A-West of Lancaster: There was discussion on the paving on CTH A West of Lancaster. Pat Schroeder made a motion, seconded by Lester Jantzen, to have Mathy Construction do the paving since they will be on site. Motion carried. Ordinance: An Ordinance is being created “Authorizing the County Highway Department to Contract with Municipalities for Highway Maintenance and Construction Services.” After reviewing the Ordinance, Lester Jantzen seconded by Patrick Schroeder moved to pass the Ordinance onto the full County Board. Motion carried. Approached by a Township: The Highway Department was approached by Castle Rock Township regarding doing their maintenance during the winter months. Jon is working on a contract to present to the Township. Employee Resigned: A County Patrolman out of the Platteville shop has resigned, the bumping process has begun.
