DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING

The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Kathy Kopp. The following members and personnel were
present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Gary Ranum, Rick
Sanson, Adam Day, John Beinborn, Brian Lucey and Bob Keeney.
GUESTS: Sheriff Craig Reukauf; Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Information Technology Director, Shane
Drinkwater; Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg; Steve Braun, Emergency Management Director; Tonya White,
County Clerk; The Herald Independent and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. John Beinborn second by Gary Ranum approved the
agenda. Rick Sanson second by Bob Keeney approved the minutes from the January 13 meeting with
one correction. All above motions carried.
There is no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg reported that they have been busy. She is involved with a study on infant
deaths under age two caused by febrile seizures through the University of New York. There was one in
2024 in Grant County.
Coroner Invoices and Financials were presented. John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson made a motion
to accept the invoices and financials. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun updated the committee on things their department has
been working on. The Tango Tango App is being implemented. The Code Red link for subscribing was
sent out on social medica with about 1,000 people subscribing.
Emergency Government invoices were presented. Rick Sanson second by John Beinborn made a motion
to accept the invoices. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed. Inmate population was at 56 this morning. There were 47
male inmates and nine females. Three inmates are on the Electronic Monitoring Program. There are 13
sentenced inmates, 17 waiting to be sentenced and 13 on Probation Holds. There are currently seven
contract inmates. Bookings were down for the month of February. There was a fatal accident involving
two vehicles in February that is still being investigated.
Sheriff Reukauf notified the committee that there is currently no place to take stray dogs. He is working
on a solution and will update the committee.
The Law Enforcement Memorial will be held on the Wednesday of Police Week.
The UTV Gator is not working and will be taken to a shop to see what is going on with it.
The City Manager of Platteville reached out to Nate Dreckman, the County Administrator in regards to
the consolidation of Platteville Dispatch and Grant County Dispatch. The Platteville Chief of Police Doug
McKinley is interested in doing a study for this. There will also be funding options available for this as
well as an upgrade to the Grant County 911 System.
The Sheriff’s Office is in need of Video Redaction Software. They are currently working with the IT
Department and demoing a couple of systems.
The Electronic Medical Record System called Sapphire that was implemented for the jail inmates is not
live yet. The interface with the pharmacy has been an issue.
Under the Radio Project Update, things are moving forward with only a few issues.
Under Personnel, there is a Female Jailer position open. Dalton Maier is training in Dispatch and comes
with Law Enforcement experience.
Under Training, Sgt. Nate Gallagher completed the FBI LEEDA Trilogy training. Sergeants Travis Wetter,
Jeremiah Harty, and Captain Mason Nemitz graduated from the Leadership in Police Organization
training. Sergeant Travis Wetter received the Public Service Impact Award.
There were no Grants to discuss.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. Adam Day second by Bob Keeney made a
motion to accept the Financials and Invoices. Motion carried.
It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Rick Sanson to adjourn to Monday, April 14, 2025 at
9:00am. Motion carried.
