DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING
GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING

April 14, 2025
The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was
called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Kathy Kopp. The following members and personnel were
present:
LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: Gary Ranum, Rick
Sanson, Adam Day, John Beinborn, Brian Lucey and Bob Keeney.
GUESTS: Sheriff Craig Reukauf; Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Captain Todd Miller; Information Technology
Director, Shane Drinkwater; Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg; Steve Braun, Emergency Management
Director; The Herald Independent and Kelly Bird, Recording Secretary.
Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services
Building, courthouse and on the county website. Gary Ranum second by John Beinborn approved the
amended agenda. Rick Sanson second by John Beinborn approved the minutes from the March 10
meeting. All above motions carried.
There is no Public Forum to discuss.
Coroner:
Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg reported that they have been busy. She will try and find a report to
present to the committee members of death trends at the next meeting.
Coroner Invoices and Financials were presented. Bob Keeney second by Rick Sanson made a motion to
accept the invoices and financials. Motion carried.
Emergency Management:
Emergency Management Director Steve Braun updated the committee on things their department has
been working on and trainings they have been teaching and attending.
Emergency Government invoices and financials were presented. Gary Ranum second by John Beinborn
made a motion to accept the invoices and financials. Motion carried.
Sheriff’s Briefing:
The monthly activity report was reviewed. Calls were up significantly for the month of March. Inmate
population was at 51 this morning. There were 40 male inmates and 11 females. Four inmates are on
the Electronic Monitoring Program. There are 15 sentenced inmates, 15 waiting to be sentenced and
nine on Probation Holds. There are currently four contract inmates.
It is National Public Safety Telecommunicaters Week.
The Law Enforcement Memorial will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 11:30 am. Committee members
are encouraged to attend.
Sheriff Reukauf notified the committee that he is still working on finding a place for stray dogs to go to.
There may need to be a temporary holding facility at the Community Services Building. Craig will update
the committee next month.
It was requested that the wording in County Ordinance 206-16.3 be changed. It was motioned by Gary
Ranum and seconded by John Beinborn to add the word or before the word fraudulently in the first
sentence and removing the word fraudulent in the sub A. Motion carried.
Under the Radio Project Update, things are moving forward with only a few issues.
Under Personnel, there is a Female Jailer position open. That position will be filled with a current Part-
Time Jailer who will begin after graduating in May. We will then be fully staffed.
There is no training to discuss.
There were no Grants to discuss.
The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson made
a motion to accept the Financials and Invoices. Motion carried.
It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Gary Ranum to adjourn to Wednesday, May 14,
2025 at 10:00am before the Law Enforcement Memorial. Motion carried.
