HomeMy WebLinkAbout06 LECminutes06-09-25GRANT COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING GRANT COUNTY COMMUNITY SERVICES BUILDING Lancaster, WI 53813 June 9, 2025 The Grant County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Disaster Services Committee Meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Kathy Kopp. The following members and personnel were present: LAW ENFORCEMENT/EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DISASTER SERVICES COMMITTEE: John Beinborn, Rick Sanson and Bob Keeney. Gary Ranum is excused. GUESTS: Chief Deputy Travis Klaas; Captain Todd Miller; Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg; Steve Braun, Emergency Management Director; Communications Supervisor Chris Johll; the Herald Independent and Tonya White, County Clerk. Kelly Bird verified the agenda had been posted at the County Clerk’s Office, Community Services Building, courthouse and on the county website. John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson approved the agenda. Bob Keeney second by Rick Sanson approved the minutes from the May 14 meeting with a change in the order of the minutes and noting the recess for the Law Enforcement Memorial. All above motions carried. There is no Public Forum to discuss. Coroner: Coroner Phyllis Fuerstenberg did not have any invoices for the month of May. She is doing two burials in the county cemetery for cremains that family members did not want. A small service and military honors will also be provided. Coroner Financials were presented. John Beinborn second by Rick Sanson made a motion to accept the financials. Motion carried. Emergency Management: Emergency Management Director’s Report was presented by Steve Braun. He updated the committee on the damage that was done during the Platteville hail storm. Steve is helping the community members that were affected by the storm. Steve presented the Wisconsin Hazmat System Contract Renewal. There have been no major changes and Corporation Counsel has reviewed it. It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Rick Sanson to approve the contract and send it to the Full County Board. Motion carried. The CDBG – Emergency Assistance Program Applications are on hold right now. Steve will keep the committee updated. Emergency Government invoices and financials were presented. Bob Keeney seconded by Rick Sanson made a motion to accept the Financials and Invoices. Motion carried. Sheriff’s Briefing: Chief Deputy Travis Klaas reviewed the monthly activity report. There was a murder suicide incident at UW Platteville on May 19 that is still under investigation. Grant County also had their third and fourth fatal accidents. They were both motorcycles. The contract with Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter in Prairie cu Chien will begin on June 1. The insurance company was contacted and building a temporary kennel at the Community Services Building will not increase rates. The Resolution in support of a grant application to fund a feasibility study on the future of the delivery of emergency communications for county of grant and the city of Platteville was passed out for review. It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Rick Sanson to approve this and send it on to the Full County Board. Motion carried. Under the Radio Project Update, the lines and antennas are on all of the northern towers. Under Personnel, we are fully staffed for Full-Time Employees. Part-Time Jailers are still needed. Under training, a Full-Time Jailer graduated from the Jail Academy held in Sparta through Western Wisconsin Technical college. We currently have three Full-Time Female Jailers and one Part-Time Male Jailer attending the Jail Academy at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. Under Grants, it was motioned by Bob Keeney and seconded by John Beinborn to apply for a $2,000.00 grant from WE Energies to purchase defibrillators for a couple of squad cars. Motion carried. The Sheriff’s Office Invoices and Financials were presented. Bob Keeney second by Rick Sanson made a motion to accept the Financials and Invoices. Motion carried. It was motioned by John Beinborn and seconded by Bob Keeney to adjourn to Monday, July 14, 2025 at 9:00am. Motion carried.
