Fall General Election
November 8, 2024 and November 12, 2024
The Grant County Canvass for the November 5, 2024 election was held on Friday, November 8, 2024 and
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in Lancaster, WI at the Administration Building in the first floor conference
room.
Members present: Karla Schwantes, Chantel Hampton, Julie Durst, Tonya White and Tammy Hampton.
All the totals were verified. The Federal/State Office Certification report was signed Tuesday, November
12, 2024 by all the canvassers and sent to the Wisconsin Election Commission at
elections.canvass@wi.gov and a hard copy was sent by mail to the Wisconsin Election Commission.
Some incidents that were noted during the County Canvass were:
It was determined that if any write in ovals were marked but no name was written in those scattering
would not count.
1. T. Boscobel Kennedy had 1 vote not reported
2. T. Fennimore inspector statement not filled out properly
3. T. Glen Haven inspector statement not filled out properly
4. T. Harrison inspector statement not filled out
5. T. Jamestown did not properly put write ins on the tally sheets
6. T. Lima there was no write in tape from the machine
7. T. Little Grant write in was adjusted
8. T. Marion DA write in was adjusted
9. T. Mount Ida there was no write in tape from the machine
10. T. Muscoda totals on the inspector statement do not add up to the correct voter total
11. T. North Lancaster did not include votes for Kennedy and Anderson on the tally sheet
12. T. Paris the referendum tally sheet was blank
13. T. Platteville Ward 1 inspector statement blank; ballot was remade in the wrong ward for ballot
that was sent by email; will be using 377 for voter total
14. T. Platteville Ward 2 board decided after talking with the Clerk that they would use 544 for a
voter total; write in were adjusted
15. T. Potosi scattering was adjusted
16. T. Smelser there was no write in tape from the machine
17. T. South Lancaster write ins adjusted
18. T. Watterstown inspector statement does not have correct numbers
19. T. Wingville adjusted write ins
20. T. Woodman front page of the poll book was blank; tally sheet was not filled out properly
21. V. Blue River front page of the poll book was not filled out properly; tally sheets not filled out;
inspector statement paper count was incorrect and no write in tape was provided
22. V. Cassville sent zero report in the official envelope instead of in the ballot bag; write in adjusted
23. V. Dickeyville write ins adjusted
24. V. Hazel Green no write in tape provided
25. V. Livingston adjusted write ins
26. V. Tennyson write ins were not reported on the tally sheet
27. V. Woodman inspector statement was not completed
28. C. Cuba City no write in tape provided
29. C. Fennimore tally sheet was incorrect for Leadger; write ins adjusted
30. C. Platteville no write in tape provided for any ward
31. C. Platteville W 3&4 numbers were not balancing, contacted the Clerk. She could not explain the
reasoning. The Board of Canvass adjourned until Tuesday, November 12th at 1:45 p.m. to allow
the City of Platteville to look into the issues that were discussed.
November 12, 2024
The Grant County Canvass for the November 5, 2024 election reconvened on Tuesday, November 12,
2024. Members present: Karla Schwantes, Chantel Hampton, Julie Durst, Tonya White, Tammy
Hampton, Colette Steffen and Peggy Udelhoven.
It was discovered that the Town of Potosi had three voters register in person with the clerk after the
deadline and also voted in person. The Board of Canvass instructed the clerk to open the ballot bag and
do a drawdown of three ballots. The numbers were adjusted on the tape, inspector statement and tally
sheets to reflect the correction.
The board started with the City of Platteville Ward 1 & 2 to verify the information from Friday.
C. Platteville W 3&4 four absentees were given numbers but did not participate; absentee amount
adjusted; no write in tape provided
C. Platteville W 5&6 two voters were given the wrong ward ballot (they were given a ballot for 7,8&9)
C. Platteville W7, 8, & 9 two voters were given the wrong ballot; one voter count not get into badger
books; two provisional ballots were brought in and added to the tally sheet (Colette opened the
provisional ballots in front of the board of canvass)
